Curves Are In

Between me, you, and the world wide web I’m fascinated with the fashion world. Growing up I wanted to become a fashion designer. I even remember making clothes for my Barbies!

Why am I so excited?

Because SKINNY IS NOT IN AT FASHION PARIS WEEK.

It’s about freaking time people. The average American woman is 5'4", weighs 140 lbs, and wears a size 14 dress. Not only did they use different sized models on the runway, they used older ones too. Elle MacPherson walked the runway at the 2010 Louis Vuitton Ready-to-Wear show during Paris Fashion Week at the ripe old age of 46.

The new curvy look comes after designer Karl Lagerfeld, in response to criticism over skinny models at European fashion weeks, told reporters: “Nobody wants to look at round women.”

HA! Tell that to my husband. (or any of my past boyfriends  ) There are definitely those men who appreciate curves. I guess you can tell what category I fit in. It’s not the fashion per se that I’m happy about but the message they are sending to world and more importantly to the young woman.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And Curves ARE In. Spread the word.
Now where's my chocolate?

It's about fracking time! I've been so sick and tired of the toothpick look...disgusted, actually. That is not the norm. In some cases, it's not healthy. Thank goodness someone out there has a brain.

I too feel it time the heavy ones get a chance...not over heavy but at least some with a little something to share. ha ha Big busted ladies need some kind of spot light considering the back aches we get from carrying these "puppies" around. ha ha susan L.

I've never seen the beauty in being able to count the bones of a person's rib cage. Woman or man! Like the models above, no lumps or bumps or folds. I could use to lose a fold or two. LOL

I'm glad for this movement and have always curvy girls can have fun too, which is why most of the time I write my heroines with curves :-)

I totally agree. At this point in my life I don't want to worry about staying slim. I exercise, but that's only for balance, to keep my muscle, and for my mind.

Great post, Annie! Yep, curves rock. Some would say I fit the 'disappearing look' crowd, but one total beauty killer for me was seeing a woman's ribcage, esp as prominently as those toothpick models.

OMG, Elle is 46???

Hugs

And thanks for those gorgeous pictures, it seems like the women with curves we see are the ones who are clownish, and these are anything but! I just don't think I'll be a size 8 again anytime soon...and I don't want to be, I don't think.
