Name Game by Gabriella Hewitt

In OUT OF THE SHADOWS, the heroine’s name is Carolina. Although it may not seem very “Spanish” it is a common enough name in the Spanish speaking community. The accent is on the “I”, so it is pronounced, Caro-lee-na. It took me a while to come up with her name because I wanted something sweet and still yet simple and something that would not earmark her as totally “Hispanic”. Also, Carolina is not your traditional Latina character and I am proud of that fact. She is a modern day cattle rancher in Arizona and has Aztec roots. So her name fit her perfectly, modern and very American.

Well, I'm working on my next book in the Shadow Warrior series. It is the fifth installment and I'm getting hung up on the name for my heroine. She's Latina and she's gutsy and a modern day warrior in the US Army. She's in a situation over her head, but in the name of family, she'll tough it out. I'm tired of calling her "h" for heroine in my plotting notes. So, I've come up with a list of names. I do have a favorite I'm leaning towards. I've also rejected a few. Like stepping into a dress that you know is "the one," I'm waiting for that punch of recognition that this is her name. It fits. It matches and nothing else could possible do.

1.... Rosario
2... Helena (Elena)
3... Gloria
4... Celia
5... Eva
6... Antonia
7... Selma
8... Sandra
9... Linda
10.. Soledad
11.. Mercedes
12.. Sonia
13.. Jennifer

Let me know what you think of the names below. Do any work for you or not? And why or why not if you can explain. Sometimes it's hard because there is no reason, only a feeling. I'll take what impressions I can get.

In celebration of the 1st book in the SHADOW WARRIORS series, I am holding a contest. Welcome to PR!

I've had a problem finding names for my heroines until recently. My latest one has had three names so far. LOL I think I have the right one now.

It's funny how the wrong name can change how you feel about a character and how it can affect the progress of a story.

And don't event get me started on the PR. LOL! Thanks for stopping by.
