I had a friend tell me recently that she loved how I work with magic. I have several ideas I'm mulling over, partially written stories with magical world building, and I'm loving the way it comes together.
When I started, I thought, well, I can just make it work because it's magic! I grew up on shows like Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. The idea of just making things happen with a wiggle of the nose or a quick blink was a childhood fantasy, one that I thought would be fun to indulge in a book.
I have to admit, there are times I still wish all it took was a blink or wiggle to make things happen. I have a list of things I'd do without having to do them. Like dishes and laundry. The gas tank would never be empty and the errands would run themselves. I'd never have to serve the kids canned soup and sandwiches for dinner because I forgot to cook, or stay up late because I need to wash clothes for the next day.
If all it took was a blink to make things happen, what would you do with your magic?
