How to Catch a Vampire by Annie Nicholas

Catching a vampire is not an easy task or for the faint of heart.  Killing would appear easier since imprisonment isn’t necessary.
Why would I want to have a vampire? Obviously, you haven’t read any of my books. I take this task seriously because as a writer I want my stories to appear possible. In hunting all dangerous prey considering their weaknesses is tantamount.

So, I made a list of vampire weaknesses because anyone who knows me knows I love my lists and numbers. There are many species of vampires so I wrote all known limitations.

1.     Sunlight
2.     Wooden impalement
3.     Holy relics and water
4.     Dismemberment
5.     Fire
6.     Certain poisons
7.     Blood
8.     Sex

I disqualified the dismemberment because I want them alive and functioning.
If the vampire you’re stalking is religious then luring it to a room filled with blessed icons could weaken it enough to be trapped.
There has got to be a cool way to corner one with sunlight. I’ve seen vampires trapped in wells but as the sun rises they get fried. I don’t want them crispy. Maybe we could give them a small recess to hide in?
I’ve killed vampires with fire and even heard of some slayers using flamethrowers but once again it’s with the goal of killing. A fire lined prison would keep your vamp but we still need to catch it and not burn down the place.

Now, I’ve heard certain rare poisons work to incapacitate them. Anne Rice used laudanum and I’ve used my own blue windex colored drug, which the source is still a secret.  Delivery is the hard part. Finding a volunteer to drink the poison and then allow a vampire to drink from them is not as easy as it sounds.
Blood and sex is more a desire but can be used as weakness, which brings us to the old bait and trap technique. I’ve used a beautiful, sexy prey animal to lure a vampire to its trap but of course it back-fired.

Those creatures of the night can be clever.

As to wooden impalement, it brings us back to death BUT it did inspire me. What if I used really thick iron bars instead? Say four of them that pinned their bodies to the ground. They wouldn’t be able to escape without tearing themselves apart, which brings the dismemberment issue back up.

I guess if the vampire wanted to be caught it would be easier. They are such sneaky creatures.  A willing prisoner, he/she wouldn’t try to escape and less apt to hurt you.  And what’s a little chain and bondage between friends?

I’m giving away a copy of CATCH tonight. To enter the draw tell me how you would catch a vampire.

  2. I think the easiest way to catch a vampire is to get them to fall head over hills in love with you. Sorry that is the paranormal writer coming out in me. LOL! I love a sexy vampire.

  3. I think that I would have to come up with some kind of spell that would prevent the vampire from leaving the room. Of course, the vampire would have to be extremely sexy!!

    Thanks for the great night.

  7. I would use a room with shutters hidden so that said vampire would feel safe entering. Vampires are notoriously strong so he could likely break down a door. However, if he were lured into the room shortly before daybreak and didn't have much time to escape....once the door was locked and daylight commenced the shutters would be lifted from the windows with perhaps the exception of one panel which the vampire could stay safely behind.

  9. I'd cut myself and sprinkle the blood where I would be sure the vampire would find it. That ought to lure it in.

  10. To Catch a Vampire...use the oldest trick in the book. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Perhaps an annual membership to the local blood bank? Or a homemade recipe of Blood Stew? But leave out the garlic, eh?

    Enjoyed the post!

  11. I would definitely sacrifice--ha ha--myself by tempting him with sex and then tying him up with a silver chain. I wouldn't jump him right away though, I'd have to earn his trust first.

  13. Dress up in my sluttiest outfit with perhaps an accidental scratch on my neck (just a little blood), and have sex with him till he's too tired to move. Yummy. Then chain him well. Oh how could he complain. :)

  17. I think the True Blood series has something going here. I don't think luring him in would be hard once he smells my blood (which I'd offer him as an appetizer) but in order to catch him, I'd then lasso him with a silver chain and make him my love slave, he he he.

  18. I would have to use the room full of religous relics to start, lure him in the room with the promise of a lot and I mean a lot of hot sex and to top it off create a poison that you can wear like a perfume so when the mood hits to start the sex a thon you have a very secret weapon to weaken him even more

  20. I think I would have to lure him to my house and somehow get him to enter a silver cage which has been disguised as a mural so he doesn't know he's entered it until it's too late and I've already locked him inside. :)

  22. If we are sticking with the blood and sex theme, can we assume the attraction already exists....
No one has thought to add the spice of innocence with the offer of the bondage..."I have never tried this before...how does one do this? I am so nervous can I see what it looks like on you first?" Not sure why, but men are always excited about being the first for anything. SOOO, manybe that would work here too. Using a little subtrafuge and "innocent" flirting to get him into the restraints willingly. Just have to make sure he is so destracted by what one is (or isn't) wareing that he doesn't knotice that they are REAL restraints, not sex toys!
