Black-Cyber-Book-Weekend is here!

Before we jump right into the point of this blog, did you US peeps have a great Thanksgiving? The Kirk family sure did, and you can find out more about that in my December 6th newsletter if you sign-up.

All right, onward! What is Black-Cyber-Book-Weekend? Obviously, it’s the combination of Black Friday (which now seems to start the Monday before Thanksgiving—unless you’re a car dealership, in which case it starts Nov. 12. The day after the Veteran’s Days deals end.) and Cyber Monday (which now seems to start on Thanksgiving). Am I wrong??

In a nutshell, it’s all about book holiday book deals!

For the record, I tried to think of a way to shorten Black-Cyber-Book-Weekend, much in the way National Novel Writing Month became NaNoWriMo, but alas, BlaCyBoWee isn’t as catchy. It doesn’t even look good as a hashtag. If you have a better idea, please post it in the comments.

And I totally digressed again, didn’t I?

Today…right here on this very blog…I’ll give you all the links I could find to super deals, freebies, and FB events that qualify for Black-Cyber-Book-Weekend! And in the comments, you all are welcome to include links to other book related deals and events I missed. Let’s make this a one-stop shopping spot for readers!

Enough of my yammering. Let’s get on with this!

One From the Archives: It's That Friday

Veronica sez: We thought it might be a good day to revisit the Archives and pull out this fun post on "Black Friday". Found this great, Anonymous quote:
"I hope your Black Friday injuries aren't so severe that you can't click a mouse on Cyber Monday."

Yup, Cyber Monday is definitely more my speed...

Something to ponder:
Star Trek characters never go shopping.
Douglas Coupland

And now here was the original post:

The sun is shining and it’s a beautiful day.

Now, if it were just any old Friday I’d say go out and enjoy this wonderful day. But it isn’t any Friday – it’s BLACK Friday. You know what that means? If you walk out that door, at some point, somewhere, somehow, there’ll be hell to pay.

Here’s my take on the Black Friday shopping experience:
Stepping on toes – yours will be.
Don’t push me – they will.
Did you cut in front of me? – never ever ask that question, you may lose more than your place in line.
Can’t be intimidated? – yes, you can be. (BF shoppers travel in packs!)
Last but not least, wear a name tag – you will be called other names!

Stay home, eat some more turkey, watch a good movie, or better yet – Read a good book.

Happy Friday, and be safe!

It's Friday...

Black Friday to be precise. You know, the day after Thanksgiving when stores beckon to one and all "Come shop here! We've got the best bang for your buck!" I've already seen signs of how hectic it must be out there on Facebook. People discussing what they've already bought, what they plan to buy, and yes, some have finished their Christmas shopping!!

I had a circular somewhere...but I can't find it. Someone is selling a toaster for $3, there was even a big screen TV for $298. Does anyone know where? Nix the toaster, but 42 inches of HD at this price is worth picking up for when mine dies. FYI--I'm on my second 40+ inches of flat screen TV in 4 years. Changed models, fingers crossed the one I now have lives longer than the leftover turkey in my fridge!

Whew--a whirlwind of shopping til you drop.

Now that I think about it, the hustle and bustle could be a good way to shed some of the extra pounds absorbed yesterday. Hmm, there's a thought...nah, I plan to make that a New Year's resolution. It's just around the corner, and I've got lots of time to take care of that situation. Don't want to get ahead of myself.

Because...

Next up is Christmas. For those that celebrate, there will be more turkey and stuffing, maybe a roast or a ham. There will be food aplenty somewhere, everywhere.

So, are you ready for round 2 of the holiday season? Have you started, or finished, your shopping. Did you find any really good deals? Share them...I want to know where the heck that TV is? *grins*
