A Virtual Book Chat & A Sale

 by Maureen Bonatch

I rarely take selfies and I've never been one to like my photo, but when I took a new job over 2 years ago that was completely virtual, I began spending every day on Zoom video meetings. It took some getting used to, but now, virtual has become the new normal to me, and many.

So when I was asked to do a virtual book chat about Destiny Calling, I hesitated for a minute before I said, sure!  What could be better than talking about books and some of my favorite characters while we are all in the comfort of our own homes? Because I admit, I've become more of a hermit over the past year and now that the temperatures are frigid in our neck of the woods, staying in seems like a good thing.

Win a Signed Book

To sweeten the pot for the virtual event, I'm giving away a signed paperback copy of both books in The Enchantlings series—AND the ebook versions of Destiny Calling and Not a Chance are on sale now for $0.99 cents so you can get your copies to read before the chat.

Register for the free virtual chat at this link, or get details right here at Bosler Memorial LIbrary's Facebook page

The virtual event is Tuesday, February 16th from 5pm- 6pm EST- I hope to see you there!

On Sale Now for $0.99 cents

Destiny Calling (Book 1)

Hope only wants to find out if her ability to infuse euphoria or despair with her touch makes her the devil's spawn, or his exterminator. But when the woman who raised her is murdered by something not human, she loses the only family she knew and discovers one she might wish she hadn’t.

Not a Chance (Book 2)

The last thing Hope Hallows wants is to become the latest headline. Living in a town that likes secrets, she prefers to keep hers hidden. Avoiding a nosy reporter’s questions about her ability to infuse euphoria or despair with a single touch, and those who crave this bliss, is nothing new. But having her brother’s annoying girlfriend, Berta, go missing is—especially when it makes Hope suspect number one.

A Week of Firsts...

So...Saturday was The Day.

Moira Rogers and I attended the Birmingham Books and Babes Book Club meeting.

Even though poor Bree was sick couldn't make it, Donna and I had a blast. It was my first reader luncheon/signing/talk, and it wasn't half as scary as I thought it would be. It was so great meeting another local(ish) author!

We did learn over dinner that we weren't the only special guests invited. I give you The Laird, the official mascot of the BBB Book Club.

He was introduced to us as "the man for every woman." You can see his spots--he's a shifter, a vampire, a fire fighter, a police officer, a sheriff, a rock star, body builder, a highlander, a solider, a cowboy, a striper, and an angel.

Once the ladies had a couple of drinks, his clothes came off...

Yeah. What else is there to say about that? LOL

I also met a very special reader Saturday. She had sent me a FB message saying she'd found my book at her local book store. I was so thrilled! I'd never seen my book on the shelf before she showed me the picture.

She went on to say she'd spoken with the staff about my books on a previous visit. When she returned a few weeks later, she saw they'd stocked Everlong and snapped some pictures for me. She even drove from Lexington, KY to Birmingham, AL for the signing and showed me the pics and told me her story in person. It was the most amazing experience.

I feel truly blessed. Ours really is the best job in the world.

Kindlegraph

A few days ago, Moira Rogers tweeted about Kindlegraphs. I had no idea what that was, so I Googled it and found their website. (You can check them out here.)

It turns out, this particular service is new, but it's not an unfamiliar concept. I'm sure you've seen authors signing autographs on readers' Kindles in lieu of traditional pen to paperback. This idea is similar, but it's something you can do from home to interact with readers (or your favorite authors).

You can watch the video here, which explains the process. It's surprisingly simple.
How you do it:
For the author–Click “authors sign up” at the bottom of the page. Then enter your books’s Amazon ASIN #
For the reader–Click on the “request Kindlegraph” button. Then register your Kindle and sit back and wait.
What it does:
For the author–It allows you to connect with readers. You’re emailed a notification whenever someone requests your autograph.
For the reader–It allows you to connect with authors by getting a personalized message from your favorite authors.
It's a fast and painless way for readers and authors to interact. I highly recommend it. While there are a few issues (tiny signature is one of them), the designer said he's working to develop his product and hopes to have new features and updates implemented soon.
For authors, once you sign up, you're emailed a link to your author page. Your bookshelf will look something like this. (My book looks lonely there. LOL)
Oh, and this is what a Kindlegraph looks like on the reader's end.

Dawn, the beta reader who blogged about her Everlong/Evermine experience, was my first victim. You can barely see my signature, but the rest is bold and clear. It's got a lot of potential. I'll be keeping my eye on its development for sure.
