When I go to a restaurant for dinner, the appetizer choices look better than the meals.
It might be that I’m not hungry or don’t have time, or I want to try something new.
Often, it’s satisfying, and I might find a new favorite.
I think the same way about short stories and novellas.
I write paranormal cozy mystery stories, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy.
My stories have many similarities but are slightly different. If you’re like me,
most paranormal will do, but if not, I have short stories of my different genres—
consider it an appetizer—to see if the genre and the series are what you like.
Here is my story ‘appetizer’ menu
The best thing about these three stories, unlike appetizers at a restaurant
that sometimes cost almost as much as the whole meal, these
stories are free when you sign up for my newsletter.
A Cozy Paranormal Mystery Novella
What’s worse than a bunch of elderly witches in provocative Halloween costumes? One dead one.
Spells, Spirits & Stiffs from the Charmed Cocktail Cozy series,
Marissa discovers a corpsicle in the freezer and a chatty cat.
A Sweet Paranormal Romance
Meet Celeste in Witchy Magic, a short story from the Magic Crush series.
An Urban Fantasy Novella
Do you like your stories with a little more grit and adventure?
Meet Violet in Grave Secrets, a novella from the Violet Storm series.

Maureen writes cozy paranormal mysteries and paranormal romance as M.L. Bonatch and
urban fantasy as Maureen Bonatch.
While she’s not busy writing or doing nurse-things, she’s a mom to her twin daughters, bicycling in the beautiful woods of PA with her hubby, doing the bidding of a feisty Shih Tzu, and dancing as much as possible. She believes music can be paired with every mood, laughter is contagious, and caffeine and wine are essential for survival.

Sometimes you just want a taste of something new. That's how I found my favorite genres. That's why I adore anthologies - like an appetizer platter!!
Yes! Thanks for stopping by, Nancy!
I agree! A short story can help you find new authors to read!
Thanks, Jessica- so true!
I agree, sometimes you want something new and different. Anthologies are the best way to check out new authors, though I like longer stories better. Thanks for sharing!
I love appetizers for dinner. LOL Same with anthologies and short stories. Great way to try something new.
