New Release, and the Silver Foxes for the Win!

About a year ago, USA Today Bestselling Author Tasha Black reached out and invited me to write three books for the Intergalactic Dating Agency's Fall 2020 season.

For those of you who don’t know, the IDA is a shared concept, which is different from a shared world. Shared concept means the authors write whatever stories they want within the community’s guidelines. In this case, the stories must include a dating agency that matches alien males with Earthling females. A shared world allows the authors to write stories within an already existing world created by someone else. (S. E. Smith’s, The Worlds of Magic, New Mexico is an excellent example of a shared world.)

So, my IDA stories could be set in my Prophecy series universe, or I could create a whole new universe and series. I, of course, chose to start from scratch. Because why use something that already exists when I could drive myself crazy creating something brand spanking new in less than twelve months? (Crazy being the operative word in that sentence.)

And to take crazy to a whole new level, I made my heroes and heroines over fifty. There are not a lot of Silver Foxes in Sci-Fi Romance at this point, which needs to change. Someday you younger folks will thank me for this!

The planning stage was going along swimmingly. I had three novella length stories to write, and the first two were flowing from my fingers…until the hero in book one decided that what he really needed was a set of wings. And the heroine got all hot and bothered by this idea. And then, the other two couples chimed in their agreement.

Of course, any author reading this blog is nodding because they already know that there was no way I was going to win that argument.

This is how my Silverstar Mates series was born. Book one, Above the Storm, released last Friday. Book two, Wingand a Prayer, will release October 19, 2020. And Book three, Trial by Fire, is scheduled for a November 12, 2020 release. (Books 2 & 3 are available for preorder now.)

So, without further ado, meet Kyzel and Robyn, my couple from Above the Storm!

Love can be as elusive as stardust.

After thirty-five years married to a controlling husband, Robyn Martin Donahue now has her freedom, friends, and a job she adores. And there’s still room in her heart for a special someone. Where in the galaxy can she find a man who will love and respect her, not try to rule her?

By law, a monarch cannot govern alone.

Recently widowed Kyzel Raptorclaw, the remaining sovereign of his clan, is on the hunt for a new mate. This time he wants more than just an ally; he wants love. But breaking with his peoples’ ancient mating tradition comes at a personal price—one his new mate may not accept.

Can Kyzel convince Robyn they are better together, or will their happily ever after crash and burn before it has a chance to soar?

Welcome to the Silverstar Agency, specializing in intergalactic love matches for those over fifty.

Excerpt from Above the Storm

(Setting: Robyn has just gotten home from work, is going through the mail trying to clear her mind of an annoying text conversation with her ex. Little does she know, she’s about to have her first startling close encounter.)

The rap of knuckles against her front door drew a groan from deep inside. Guess Kevin wasn’t finished talking. Once an idiot….

No, no, no. She’d sworn she’d never treat anyone the way Kevin had treated her, and that promise had included Kevin. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t give him a piece of her mind.

She stomped toward the door, grasped the knob, and yanked the door open. “Why, Kevin? Why can’t you just…? Ohh.”

Man-nipples. She was looking at man-nipples, not Kevin’s face. How…unexpected.

A vaguely nutmeggy scent floated on the subtle evening breeze as she tipped her head back…and back, and back. Her gaze roved over the leather straps across the smooth, bare chest, until she met the piercing ice-blue gaze of her rather enormous…and ridiculously handsome…visitor. The guy had to be pushing seven feet; too tall to pass through her doorway without ducking.

And his hair—which wasn’t really hair, it was thin, sleeked-back feathers that ran over his head from a widow’s peak back—looked a lot like a bald eagle’s, with more varying shades of gray than white.

“Good evening, Ms. Donahue.” Her ridiculously handsome visitor had a ridiculously deep and sexy voice. The kind of voice that reached out and caressed her in all the places she hadn’t been caressed in, well, way too long. And never properly.

A subtle motion drew her attention to something big, silver, and feathery behind his broad shoulders.

Her breath hitched in her chest. “OhdearGod!”

She slammed the door.

Breathe, Robbi. Breathe.

But the guy has wings!

Honest-to-God wings. What was she going to do with this?

Light My Fire

Recently, I’ve been on a dragon binge. No, I’m not writing about dragons (yet), but I have read lots of wonderful books featuring dragon shifters. All kinds of dragon shifters, frankly. Alien dragons, Earth-bound dragons…just gimme!

I know that many of you have a hankerin’ for fire breathing heroes too, so today I’m sharing some these books with you. Some are very recent additions, and others have been patiently waiting for me to tap their cover and step into their fiery domain.

To my author buddies: These are all very recent reads for me. If your dragon books aren’t featured here it’s most likely because I haven’t read your books yet, or I read them during an earlier dragon reading binge. Please, please, please feel free to drop your links in the comments.

So, in no particular order, here they are….

 Dragon Mates

Dragon Mates, J. K. Harper – I picked up this 3-book set awhile ago, and fell in love. Hope J.K. writes other stories in this world as I’d love to know what happens to some of the other unmated fellas. (Hint, hint, J.K.) (Available on KU**)

Under Fyre, Cara Bristol – Released last week, this is the first book in a new series, and wow, did it impress! There is an Under Fire Prequel available for .99 cents, or you can pick it up for free if you visit Cara’s website and sign up for her newsletter.**

Loyal Dragon Shifter, Rinelle Grey – First book in Rinelle’s Return of the Dragons series, which is an excellent series. Currently free on Amazon**. And, the next book is due out…ooh! May 31, 2019. Hey, that’s tomorrow! (Available on KU**)

Legion, Regine Abel & Juno Wells – These are not your standard fire-breathing dragons, but the Xion Warriors of this series are incredibly hot. And they’re aliens. So far there are only two books in this series, but I've heard whispers that more stories are planned. Can’t wait! (Available on KU**)

Feral Ice, Ann Gimpel – Original and thoroughly enjoyable. The last alien dragons (twins) of a dying breed are surprised to find their mates quite by accident…at Earth’s South Pole of all places. This is book one of Ann’s Ice Dragons series. Book three is set to release on June 25, 2019!

Loved by the Dragon, Vivienne Savage – Two complete stories in one book—a book that comes with its own “adult content” warning, if that’s your thing. <wink> It’s also the first in the four-book Dawn of the Dragons series. (Available on KU**)

Is it me, or do dragon romances have some of the most beautiful covers?

Well, that should be enough to light your fires (pun intended). Have you read any dragon shifter stories recently that touched your heart? Please mention them in the comments so the rest of us can check them out!

Cara Bristol TERRAN: How To Hide A Hostage With Pink Hair

Today it's my pleasure to have Cara Bristol as my guest talking about her latest sexy science fiction romance novel TERRAN. This is the second book in her  Breeder series. Take it away, Cara!

Because I “pants” my plotting, I sewed myself into a conundrum in my design of alien clothing.

I started writing the first Breeder science fiction romance, before I realized it would be series. So without thought for future books, I designed alien uniforms—shirts for the men and shifts for the women—that cut across the chest leaving an arm and the right side of the chest bare. I also created a secondary character, a woman from Earth, and had fun with her appearance. I bestowed her with pink hair and a full sleeve tattoo on her right arm.

Then I discovered I had series on my hands, and that the earth woman would be the heroine of book two, Terran and that Alpha Commander Marlix (a pseudo villain in book one who loathes Terrans) would be her hero.

And then Marlix surprised me by kidnapping Tara—requiring that he hide her.

How do you hide a woman with bright pink hair and full sleeve tattoo that is bared by the clothing style? No one else on the entire planet looks like that.

See the conundrum?

But I figured it out how to do it.

Terran Blurb
After fleeing heartache on Terra, Tara Diehl has adjusted to male-dominated Parseon better than most vendors until she is kidnapped by Alpha Marlix, a ruling commander. At first her tall, muscled abductor terrifies her, especially when he doesn’t hesitate to quell her struggle for freedom with some force. When her attempts to escape fail, she decides to seduce her way to freedom.
But out of seduction and subterfuge grow a true intimacy that cause Marlix and Tara to take action that drives Parseon to the brink of civil war, threatening not only their relationship, but also their lives.
Terran, the second book in the Breeder sci-fi series, is a “capture” romance involving a domineering but hunky alien, a female with a bad dye job and an even worse attitude, hot sex, and spanking.

Terran Excerpt
If people gawked, she did not notice. Panic blinded Tara to all but instinct as she tore through the Bazaar. Suck it up. Suck it up. Sobs of relief convulsed in her throat when her feet found their way to her shop. Perched on a counter stool eating lunch, Ramon leaped to his feet as she stumbled in.

“My God, Tara! What the hell happened?” He grabbed a bolt of flannel off its stand and threw it around her, then hugged her to his chest.

Unable to stop crying, she heaved and shuddered as Ramon rocked her and swore under his breath.
“I th-thought it w-would be o-o-okay. I only went out-outside to check.”

Ramon stiffened.

“They grabbed me,” she sobbed.

“They?”

“Th-three males.”

“Fuck,” he swore, his voice laden with concern. He did not need to say I-told-you-so to remind Tara how foolish she’d been. “We need to call Security. The Terran Embassy.”

She shook her head. “No.” The Terrans held little authority and couldn’t do anything. Parseon Security did have power but would do nothing. Nor could she endure an interrogation by males cut from the same cloth as her attackers. Parseon did not consider sexual assault a crime but rather a sport, which was why the treaty attempted to protect its female vendors by insisting they travel with an escort. By venturing into the Market alone, she had disobeyed the rules intended to protect her.

“Yes. My God, Tara, you were attacked.” He dropped his voice to a hoarse whisper. “Did they rape you?”

“No,” she lied. She squeezed her eyes shut against Ramon’s shoulder. She’d been pinned to the ground. They had sodomized her with their fingers—they just hadn’t gotten around to the rest of it, because the Commander had intervened. She recalled his growl, his shadow. The boot on her back had lifted, and her attacker had flown through the air. She’d heard a thud and a snap, and then the pounding of feet as the other two attackers had scrambled away.

Only Alpha remained. Though he’d saved her, the rage and intent to harm that enlarged his already huge body had terrified her, and she’d fled, as much from him as the attack.

“You’re bleeding,” Ramon said, and she became aware of searing pain in her legs, back, and chest. They’d cut her when they had sliced at her clothing and had pummeled her with their fists and feet. “You need medical attention. I’m calling Security.”

“No!” came a gravelly shout.

Ramon started, but Tara did not. Hadn’t she known all along he would follow her?

“I will handle this.” There was no mistaking the threat in the gaze the Alpha cast upon Ramon. “Leave us.”

A brave Ramon shook his head. “No, I’m staying.”

Aggression shimmered off the Commander in waves. Ramon was wiry but little match for most men on Terra, let alone an Alpha. She had little doubt how he would fare in a confrontation. Again, she pictured her attacker sailing through the air as if the Commander had thrown a stuffed toy and not a live adult male.
She opened her mouth to reassure her shop mate she would be okay, but before she could speak, the Commander yanked her out of Ramon’s protective embrace and slung her over his shoulder. The Alpha stalked out of her shop into the Bazaar.

She could hear Ramon yelling.

Shock and fear paralyzed her. Hard sinew and bone shifted beneath her abdomen as the Commander carried her as if her weight posed no burden. She stared at the moving ground. His arm across her thighs immobilized her legs. The flannel with which Ramon had covered her trussed her arms. Tara found her voice. “Let me go! Where are you taking me?” Had he saved her only to rape her himself? Along with amusement and derision, there’d been lust in his eyes during their fabric transaction.

The Commander ignored her.

Tara worked her arms free of the flannel and punched at his legs. “Put me down, now!”

He growled and struck her ass hard three times.

She hit him again.

He retaliated.

For every blow she landed against him, he tripled with his own.

“Help! Somebody, please help,” she screamed, knowing it was in vain. Not a single person had come to her rescue during the attack by the betas, and no one would oppose an Alpha. Parseons would not, and though shock registered on the faces of her fellow vendors, the Commander moved too swiftly for them to do anything—if they had dared. Her fear rising, Tara began to cry.

Before she knew it, they had exited the Bazaar, left the Market, and boarded the sky tram.
