Geekdom

Everybody has an inner geek. In high school, ah heck even now, I embraced my inner geek and continue to allow it to shine. Never one to follow conformity, I still follow my passion even when others give me the side eye. Why am I talking about this? Because it's this part of me that shines the most when I write my stories. Every author has a 'voice' and my inner geek speaks loud when I place pen to paper. (See, I still write my first draft longhand.)

On a long drive back to Canada, my native land, to visit my hometown. I flashed back to my days of major dorkdom when it wasn't cool to be different. A girl who liked science fiction? Who was a trekkie AND a whovian? Who wanted to be a Jedi? Let's just say the bullies had a field day with me. and I grew up insecure. I reflected on how much I'd changed since then, yet somehow still hung onto my fandom. I still loved all those things and wasn't ashamed.

What would it have been like if I'd grown up in a werewolf pack instead? This question sparked a really important desire. The underdog movement.  Did shifters have their own versions of geeks?

Being a mixed culture of both human and wolf, we imagine them to be hot and sexy. Full of animal magnetism wanting to dominate and keep a mate for life.

What about the ones who lived on the fringe of the pack? The different people, who live on the out skirts of their society, my brethren, who go by all sorts of names. In wolf packs these individuals are called Omegas, the scapegoats of the pack. I could relate. I'd lived there myself.

How would werewolf omegas live? Could they band together? Would the pack allow them to do that? If they needed to defend themselves who would teach them?

Inspired by these questions came forth The Vanguards and later The Vanguard Elite, where I could explore these ideas because, let's face it, sometimes a woman just needs to root for the underdog.

Pinterest Story Boards

Eorthe is an alternate Earth where vampires, werewolves, and other assorted creatures live. They’ve never even heard of a human until Dr. Susan Barlow tumbled into their world. (Book One) In this new installment (book 2), we’re traveling to the vampire colony of New Berg, where my hero and heroine get in way too much trouble.

So you can imagine I had to do some world building. Every author who writes paranormal/fantasy series knows what I mean when I say we all have tricks to remember the small details of previous books. I can’t express how much pain and time it used to take me to remember what so-and-so’s eye color is or how did her bedroom look like?

*bangs head*

There were nights I wanted to hit delete on the whole project because I was fed up with—wait, what was his eye color again?

I know writers who use Scrivener and Onenote. I tried them but it felt like work. I work enough at my evil day job and taking care of my kids. Until I discovered Pinterest and fell down the time suck well.

At least, it was fun.

Then it dawned on me that most of my boards contained pictures of things I wanted to use in future stories. Well, heck, why not past stories too! I created my storyboards. Now, readers can go there and see how I picture my heros, dragons, castles, caves…etc.

Better yet, when I need to remember so-and-so’s eye color it’s just a click, and at least, ten new pins away.

Suffer the Hunger

Have you ever been so hungry that it was the only thing that occupied your mind?

It's one of our primal drives.

We all have to eat.

What if you didn't just need food to survive? What lengths would you go to live and how would you live with yourself afterwards? These are questions that Pia Blyton suffers through in Ravenous.

Suffer the hunger.

Pia Blyton wants it all. A steady boyfriend, love and her independence. But to ignore her succubus nature is to welcome chaos. Every three days she must orgasm to feed. Bad sex isn’t an option. Stave off the hunger for too long and her demon side peeks out, and its tastes are much less discerning than hers.

One bad day, one wrong decision, and her demon takes control of her libido and kisses all her best intentions goodbye.

Brokenhearted and ashamed, Pia is dragged home to Lake City by Zur-Sin, a vampire her father paid to find her. Caught in a world where mortal desires are seen as a weakness, Pia needs to figure out how to protect her heart from her deepest longings.

EXCERPT

Day seven of my cycle

Cold iron bit into my wrists when I rolled on my side and turned my back toward the door. The insistent knocking drilled into my aching head. I stifled a moan. If I stayed real quiet maybe they’d leave, thinking the motel room was empty. From the searing pain in my abdomen and the weakening demands of my inner demon, I only had a few hours left to live.
The crack of wood splintering replaced the pounding. I jerked at the sharp noise and twisted around. Hanging on the hinges, my door had smashed open. Someone flicked the switch on and the lights burned my sensitive eyes. I tried to shield my face with my hand but the chains holding the manacles around my wrists clanked and held my arm inches from the mattress.
“No.” I yelled. “Get out!” My chains rattled as I lunged at them. They snapped me back against the mattress and my head flopped on the pillow as a surge of sexual frustration flooded my system. My demon nature had quieted to a dull roar since yesterday but the scent of males had awoken the beast. It roared inside my head and clawed to retake control of my body. “Yes, stay,” it whispered.
Two people strode into the room. Light haloed around them so I couldn’t make any details. “Close the door, Cooper.” The shorter one knelt by my bed. “You look terrible for a succubus.”
I blinked my eyes until I could focus, and cleared my throat. “Get the fuck out.” I just wanted to die and take my demon with me.
The young man tilted his head to the side as if confused. Blond with blue eyes the same shade as a tropical sea, he didn’t look much older than nineteen. “I’m here to rescue you, sweetheart.” He caressed my cheek and all thoughts of saving him stopped on a dime.
I leaned into his touch and purred. “Yes, let me go.” My demon fought me for control.
He jumped to his feet and stepped back, his gaze caressing my body as if trying to decide where to start undressing me. “Fuck.”
I’d seen human males react to me this way. The hungrier I grew, the more they would want me. Neither of us could control that reaction. My body would pump fuck-me pheromones in the air until it was fed.
The second man came into my view, a little taller than the blond, with tawny hair down to his muscled shoulders. His thread bare t-shirt and faded jeans clung to all the right places. “What’s wrong?”
“Look at her body. She’s emaciated. Someone left her here to starve.” He watched me as I struggled against my chains.
I could only sit in the back of my head and scream in silence. What I called my demon nature was really a survival instinct. It grew more powerful when I got too hungry. I’d find myself humping some schmuck behind a Dumpster if I didn’t feed every three days. This was day seven.
I shuddered. This drive to orgasm was what ruined my life. All I ever wanted was to be loved. Why could every other creature have it but my kind?
The blond searched the bathroom, the closet and under my bed. “I don’t think it’s a trap. If it was, they would have set her loose on us by now.”
“A trap?” Tawny, gorgeous Cooper retreated to the door. “You said we were here to help her.” He readjusted the crotch of his tight jeans. His gaze wandered back to me and he swallowed hard.
“We are, but I wasn’t expecting this. Her father said she’d run away but this looks more like a kidnapping.”
“Well, unchain her and let’s go.”
The blond grew still and glared at Cooper. Suddenly, he didn’t seem nineteen anymore and the power radiating off him sent my supernatural Richter scale off the chart. So, not human, which explained how he knew my father.
Cooper shrank against the door, his gaze pinned to the cheap carpeting. “Sorry.”
“Sorry, what?”
“Sorry, master.” His voice shook.
“Use your fucking nose and see if you can pick up the scent of whoever chained her to the bed.” The master ran a finger along the sole of my foot.
I rolled my hips, inviting him to take off the yoga pants. I wanted his hands on my skin, not teasing my feet. No, no touching, no feeling. I clawed at the demon. I wouldn’t lose this time.
Cooper had walked around the room sniffing at random areas. “It’s hard to pinpoint scents in motel rooms, Zur-Sin. There’s too much traffic, but hers are the freshest and I don’t pick up anything else as new.”
That name snapped both me and my demon out of our horny trance. Oh, shit. I’d heard of him. If the devil was a rock star, Zur-Sin was his lead guitarist.
“Look at her.” There was a touch of awe in Zur-Sin’s voice. “Starved and in desperate need of a shower, yet she’s got me eager enough to cum in my pants like I was fifteen all over again.” He glanced at his erection, then at Cooper’s. “You too. Now that’s power.” He pulled out his phone and took a picture of me. “See? I’m even sending proof to Flynn.”
“No!” I cried out. Fear of hurting my father somehow trumped my demon for a second and gained control again.

“Oops, too late.” He shook his head. “What am I going to do with you, Pia?”

Review: Last Hour of Gann

Blurb:

It was her last chance:

Amber Bierce had nothing left except her sister and two tickets on Earth’s first colony-ship. She entered her Sleeper with a five-year contract and the promise of a better life, but awakened in wreckage on an unknown world. For the survivors, there is no rescue, no way home and no hope until they are found by Meoraq—a holy warrior more deadly than any hungering beast on this hostile new world…but whose eyes show a different sort of hunger when he looks at her.

It was his last year of freedom:

Uyane Meoraq is a Sword of Sheul, God’s own instrument of judgment, victor of hundreds of trials, with a conqueror’s rights over all men. Or at least he was until his father’s death. Now, without divine intervention, he will be forced to assume stewardship over House Uyane and lose the life he has always known. At the legendary temple of Xi’Matezh, Meoraq hopes to find the deliverance he seeks, but the humans he encounters on his pilgrimage may prove too great a test even for him…especially the one called Amber, behind whose monstrous appearance burns a woman’s heart unlike any he has ever known.

From R. Lee Smith, author of Heat and Cottonwood, comes an epic new story of desire, darkness and the dawn that comes after The Last Hour of Gann.

WARNING: This book contains graphic violence, strong sexual content and explicit language. It is intended for mature readers only.

Official Review:

What an unexpected gem.

Ms. Smith is a new to me author. I discovered this book via word of mouth and was intrigued by the concept. I hadn't realized it was over 4000 pages long but that only convinced me that it would be a great read. Amber is a strong female character who's determination to survive is remarkable. Meorak is one of the best heros I've read in a very long time. Warrior priest with an ironic sense of humor.
Some parts were difficult to read. Not because of the writing but the violence. So consider this a warning for the faint of heart. Ms. Smith does not gloss over the horrors of reality. But it was all worth it.

I laughed, I cried, and I will read it again

(And I did. Right after I wrote this review, I read it all over again. LOL)

Unofficial Gushing:

Anyone who knows me, knows I don't post a review unless I really want other people to read the book. If I could have given it 6 stars+, I would have.

I have been looking for something to rock my world for over eight months. Most books I picked up were ok, but nothing for me to pass along.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVED it.

I tip my reader and writer hat to Ms. Smith. The first time I read it was as a reader and could barely put it down and missing my deadline. LOL Second time was as a writer so I could learn from the experience.

Why Do People Kiss Under the Mistletoe?

At this time of the year, many homes hang a sprig of mistletoe under a doorway. According to custom, a man is allowed to kiss a girl if she is caught standing under it.

From my research this seems to be an ancient tradition beginning with the Norse. Legend has it that Balder, son of Frigga, was killed by an arrow made of mistletoe shot by Loki. So distraught by the loss of her son, she wept tears of white berries which brought him back to life. Frigga then blessed the plant and vowed to kiss all those who pass beneath it.

It has always been believed that mistletoe will increase life and fertility.

The Druids considered it a mystical plant since it won't root in soil but into other trees, mostly the oak. They would hang sprigs over their doorways, believing it would bring happiness and protection to the household.

In ancient Rome, it was custom for the visitor to kiss the hand of the host signifying their good faith. Since mistletoe brought happiness, kissing them under it was a pledge of eternal friendship.

When the Romans conquered Britain and France, they brought their traditions and adopted a few of the Celtic ones. With the spread of the Christian faith across Europe, new beliefs were mixed with old customs giving birth to what we do today.

I also read that when a man kisses you under the mistletoe he's supposed to pluck a berry from it. Once all the berries are gone there's no more kissing.

The lesson to this blog is make sure to find a sprig with many berries.

Happy Holiday!!

Octopus Mating Games

Releasing September 17th

Believe it or not, I got a story idea watching a documentary on the mating games of octopus.   Link to article.

The gist to these games is how complicated the rules are to the point where we wonder if there are any rules at all. LOL  We’re talking multiple partner harem-ish behavior with males sneaking into these dens while the guardian male isn’t looking.

O.M.G.  There was a story in this for me but I couldn’t fathom what.

I’d been playing around with idea of a succubus story for years but couldn’t foresee a HEA for a race that needed multiple partners. It didn’t take me long to connect the octopus lifestyle to this problem.

If octopi could figure out a complex system of rules for mating so could my succubi and incubi.  Starved for Love is born.

Thank you researchers of marina biology. :D

Blurb:

After almost dying of starvation to remain faithful to a mortal lover, succubus Pia Blyton now shields her heart by feeding solely on men she won't fall for. The only trick is, to create energy to survive, she must achieve orgasm. At least that rules out bad sex with her three lovers. Too bad she's a sucker for falling in love.

When her demon lover doesn't arrive for their arranged rendezvous, Pia is forced to ask her vampire lover to step in before her energy becomes dangerously low. In return he demands a favor and Pia finds herself in the hotel suite of the mysterious Valerio Hunan, who seduces her with a devastating kiss. Too late Pia learns he's an incubus who wants to lure her into marriage—a marriage without love.

As an incubus used to bedding a variety of succubi, Val doesn't understand Pia's yearning for love. He needs a succubus wife to provide him with a steady source of energy. But he wants Pia for the passion and renewed interest in life she makes him feel. Can Pia convince Val that sex isn't just for survival and love is for more than the weak?

Excerpt:

Day three of my cycle

Sex and love should come in the same package, but for a succubus, that meant trouble. Sex equaled food and fidelity couldn’t be part of the equation. Humans couldn’t eat the same thing every meal and stay healthy, and neither could we.

I thumped on the steel door of an industrial garage. Most people didn’t know the largest vampire nest in the Northeast was contained in an underground facility below this building. I kept up my third round of pounding. I knew the vampires were in there. The sun had just set. Someone needed to drag his lazy butt out of bed to answer the door. “I’m not going away!” Security cameras and microphones monitored the place 24/7. The jerks knew I was here.

I needed to feed, and to do that, I needed to get laid. Like all succubi, I survived on the energy created in my body during an orgasm. I couldn’t even stay alive on bad sex. Finding attractive, skilled partners wasn’t a problem in Lake City, but I was a sucker for falling in love. I couldn’t handle the guilt of a one-night stand, and if I tried to live off one male forever, I’d starve, which my instincts wouldn’t allow. I’d tried it once and would never allow myself to go down that road again.

Neither would my parents.

Rain plastered my short curls to my head. Normally, they stuck straight out, the different shades of autumn leaves. I’d be lucky if my suitor didn’t slam the door in my face at the sight of my drenched appearance. But I needed him in a bad way.

I added a kick to my knocking. “It’s Pia, damn it. And it’s raining. Let me in.”

The door finally opened. “The Master’s not expecting you for another seven days.”

I pushed past Rat, one of Zur-Sin’s minions, and huddled in the antechamber. “I know. Tell him I have a problem.”

“What trouble are you in now, Pia?” Sin’s voice carried over an intercom by the door leading into the vampire lair.

Pressing the talk button, I stood on tiptoe to speak in the microphone. “John left a note pinned to my door. He left town last night.” I hoped he was okay. Being a low-level demon bites. Someone was always on his ass.

“So?”

“He’s my suitor for today.” I glanced at Rat, who chuckled. “Shut up.”

“Go see Cooper.”

“Cooper’s on a hunting trip with the pack. Won’t be back for another three days when it’s his turn.”

“I can oblige.” Rat stroked a hand down my back.

His touch sent a wave of desire through my body, but I wasn’t so far gone yet that I’d jump anything with a dick. “Fuck off.” I shoved him away. At least, I tried to. Beauty was a succubus power, not muscle. “We made a deal, Sin.”

“Every nine days. You were just here three days ago.”

“Yeah, do the math, genius. Today’s day three in my cycle. You want me to do Rat instead? I’m out of options.” I crossed my arms and glared at the vampire lackey. I’d eat my own arm before touching him but Sin didn’t have to know that.

“Bring her down, Ratan.”

Rat’s fanged grin faded. “Yes, Master.” He unlocked the door and opened it for me like a gentleman. “Whores first.”

I pulled my jacket tighter around me and fought the shivers. Half-drowned, my need burned inside my body, the hunger for flesh rubbing on flesh setting my skin to oversensitive. If Sin didn’t take me to his bed then I’d have to find some stranger to screw. Nausea rolled in my stomach. I never should have been born a succubus. To my parent’s shame and concern, I wasn’t amoral enough.

They monitored my every meal. How much worse could my life get when my father interviewed potential lovers for me? For crying out loud, what happened with Pierre was history and they needed to let go of the past. I did. Tried…

Racing down the stairs and across the sub-basement, I strode by other vampires, all of them part of Zur-Sin’s nest. He controlled Lake City at night and my father had it during the day. That’s how I met Sin. My father hooked me up two years ago to keep me from starving.

Twenty-five years old and I still lived with my parents. All four of them.

Most mortals wouldn’t understand my dad being interested in my sex life, but he worried and stressed about my lack of lovers to feed upon since I was so picky. I had three now. That should be more than enough if they would just cooperate.

I waited for Rat to twist his key in the elevator so it would travel into the secured areas below us. The doors slid open and I jumped inside.

“Try not to take too long. He has appointments to keep.” With those lovely instructions, Rat keyed the doors closed and I descended into Sin’s world.

Shaking the excess water from my hair, I tried to poof some life back into my signature curls. They sagged on my forehead. Sighing at my reflection, I hung my head. Nothing was sadder than a disheveled, horny succubus.

The doors slid open and a large pair of bare feet stepped into my view. A finger slipped under my chin and raised my gaze. Zur-Sin, ancient vampire warrior, stared at me with his stern dark eyes. Dressed in only a pair of black silk pajama bottoms, he looked good enough to eat. He brushed the curls from my face and frowned. “You have much to learn about the art of seduction.”

“I dressed up last time I was here. I get panicky when things don’t go my way on day threes.”

“It’s not all about appearance, Pia. You’re beautiful even when left out in the rain.” He bent and placed a gentle kiss on my lips. Sin’s touch always struck a spark—even on my off days he could lure me to his bed. “Grace and tact would be appreciated at times. You can’t barge into my nest making demands. It makes me seem weak.”

“I’m sorry.” I leaned against his solid chest. His pale skin still retained the warmth of his last feed. I didn’t ask about his latest conquest. We had a business deal signed in blood. He gave me an orgasm every nine days and I fed him with my blood. No strings attached. I think I came out on top of that deal because Sin could be a generous lover when in the right mood. And I had learned how to guide him into those moods.

He placed a kiss to the top of my head. “Next time call. I have a human secretary, remember? She’d have made quieter arrangements.”

“She hates me.” I squirmed, pressing my thighs together to help relieve the growing demands between them.

Sin sighed and led me into his apartment, through the living room, past his office and into the bedroom where he sat on the edge of his king-sized bed. He plucked a remote off the mattress and turned on some slow jazz. Leaning back onto his elbows, he ran his gaze over me. “Undress.”

I knew this game. It was his favorite. The command was a comfort, something familiar in a day filled with anxiety, since my scheduled suitor had abandoned me. I had watched the sun move across the sky, feeling my need grow. Unbuttoning my raincoat, I tossed it to the floor. I listened to the music and allowed the beat to pace my movements. Shirt, jeans and socks came off slow and easy. Each stroke of my hand over my skin intensified my yearning.

All the while he watched, his eyes caressing my curves, so intent it made me ache.

I unclasped the front of my bra and stalked toward the edge of the bed. The straps slid from my shoulders and down my arms, releasing my breasts. Cool air brushed over my wet skin and sent a shiver through my limbs.

“You’re cold.” He offered me his hand.

I climbed in his warm bed. Lying next to him, I ran my hand through his short, sunny-blond hair. “What would I do without you?”

He chuckled. “Save those words for your other suitors.” Trailing a sharp fingernail over my breastbone, he drew a path to my belly button and teased the small ring pierced there. “What will you give me in exchange for tonight?”

I blinked and tilted my head to see his face better. “What I always pay, my blood.”

He shook his head. “I already fed and the price went up.”

Slumpy Dumpy

I'm seeing a pattern in my writing habits over the last three years.

I can't write in the month of July and August.

There's too much to do outdoors and with the family. I'm exhausted. My books are plotted. My blogs are done. But I just can't sit my ass down on the chair and make words.

*sigh*

Has school started yet?

A Pinning Obsession

Never in a million years would I have thought that posting pics I find on the web THIS interesting.

But I do.

I rilly, rilly do.

For those poor souls who are scratching their heads asking what is this Pinterest thing? Pinterest is a website where you create an account to post pictures you like from the internet on boards, as in cork boards, so others can browse through them or for your own files.

Why would I want to do this?

See, I asked the same question. People store food ideas. (Can't tell you how many recipes I've found.) Wedding plan, baby showers, birthday parties, vacations, crafts, art, eye-candy, etc. Need I go on?

I started with character ideas. Blam. Sucked in like a black hole. It's great for inspiration when I'm stuck. Some readers are curious how I imagine what the characters look like because, face it, cover art is limited. I started a new board last night I called 'Makes Me Smile' since sometimes I just need that.

I enjoy browsing other people's boards. It gives me insight on who they are. Just this morning I was looking through a fellow writers hero/heroine board and realized she likes men with strong chins and defined cheek bones with etheral like women. If you checked out mine, you'd see I like weird looking men and warrior like women. LOL

So careful before logging on Pinterest. There's a whole new world to explore and it may take you a few hours to find your way back out.

And if you're ever wondering what Annie Nicholas is doing...

Paperback Blues

I've been using a Nook exclusively for over a year. I love it. I live in a rural area so the closest Barnes and Nobles is a 45 minute drive away. With the Nook, my purchases are one click away. :D

I went to a convention recently and recieved many, many free books and bought a few two but mostly in paperback. I didn't think anything of it at the time except what a pain in the ass to lug around. (OH my aching back)

Then this weekend I finally got some time to crack one open. I'd forgotten how to hold a book with one hand. There's a knack to keeping your fingers in the right place on the spine yet keep them out of the flipping way of the words. Not only that, there's no save a place button when you close the thing. LOL The font was too small for my old eyes and I couldn't adjust it. Then when I wanted to read in the bath I couldn't fit in a plastic ziplock bag to protect it and still flip the pages.

I love looking at them though.

It's odd how easy it was to adjust to my ereader and how I take it for granted. (hugs her Nook)

The Craft of Reading

I’ve been reading and re-reading a lot of books since January. More than usual. I hit a mental wall and had to remember what I enjoyed about story telling. I spent time examining my reactions to the books I was reading and what were the causes.
The things I loved and took my time reading over them, allowing the writer to pull me in were
§  Dialogue, especially witty banter
§  Sexual tension, but it didn’t need to be the actually act of sex
§  Inner conflict, where the hero/heroine was working something out in their head.
I never used to examine my books while I read them but they are my only teaching resource available to me that I actually understand. When I found myself engrossed I flipped back to see how did the author DO THAT?  Lol
Like wise, I found things that popped me out of the story, roll my eyes, or skim ahead.
§  When the sound something makes is used instead of described, like Crash. The vase fell. I’m not sure why but it was as if I’d been slapped in the face.
§  Too much fighting. There’s an art to writing these scenes. Fights where the character is thinking and devising plans inside their head keep my interest but when it is just described with little internal monologue. *Yawn*
§  Pain, discomfort, torture. Oddly this disturbed me. I’m a PNR author, you’d think I was all about the blood lust, but apparently it’s all about moderation. LOL  A chapter about it, I’m fine. Go beyond that and I’m flipping pages.
I’ve been taking notes and grasping new ideas of how to craft the word magic to lure my victims readers in.

Are there some things that have come to your attention while reading a book?

Release Day Madness-Omegas in Love

Omegas in Love is available today!

I can't wait to share Tyler and Katrina's adventure. This book helped fulfill one of my goals/dreams to write a love story about two people already in love at the start of the book. Romance doesn't end once a couple is together. It should only be the beginning, but this story isn't about so much the romance. It's how far someone is willing to go for the person they love, how much they'd endure, and how hard they're willing to fight.

I just about melt every time I think of how intense and frightful our gentle, funny Tyler gets when someone lays his hand on sweet Katrina. And  my heart wants to break when she has to face her nightmares alone.

To celebrate my release, I'm giving away stuff for the next two weeks. Details are at the link below!

BLOG TOUR SCHEDULE with links, of course. :D

Some things are best to forget. But what if the past won't be forgotten?Born in China of a pure shifter bloodline, Katrina was raised with only one purpose--to breed. Abused by her alpha, she runs away to America as soon as she can. With a new pack and her true mate, she thinks the nightmare is behind her, but when she is abducted on the streets of Chinatown, Katrina must face her past and fight for her freedom.

It took Tyler a year to earn Katrina's love, another to build her confidence and pride, and only a moment to lose her. Broken-hearted, Tyler won't give up his search for Katrina. But he never trained as a warrior like the other shifters. What chance does a real estate agent have in the fight for his mate?

WARNING: Explicit shifter sex, heartbroken torment, and an unstoppable shifter in love.

ALL COMMENTS LEFT HERE WILL BE ADDED TO THE TWO WEEK DRAWING FOR A COPY OF OMEGAS IN LOVE DRAWN ON APRIL 2nd.

Dulldrums

Ten more days...

until Feb. is over. Yay!!!

Every winter I dread this month because no matter what I try it drags me down. This one was particularly hard since we had no snow so the skiing sucked and we couldn't tobbagan. Super downer for both me and the boys.

March is around the corner and I have release in that month! That gives me a lift to coming exciting months of Spring and the Romance Times convention being held in Chicago.

To beat the dulldrums of this month I've boosted my Vitamin D intake and tried to walk the icy streets. (That's a good core workout if you don't break your ankle)

Next week Kenya Wright will be visiting on Monday discussing Supernatural College 101.

Romance

ro/mance:

noun- A feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love.
verb- Court; woo: "the wealthy owner romanced her".

Sounds simple, but we all know there's more to it then this definition. It's one of the strongest driving forces in our known universe. This whole blog is dedicated to it. Heck, my writing career hinges on it.

I think we all have individual ideas of what romance means. Just like food and books, we all have different tastes. I cringe at the idea of someone reading poetry to me. (It's happened and I wanted to crawl under a rock and die.) But damn, if my man does the laundry without me asking, it's better than a dozen roses any day.

As a romance writer, I've become sensitve to others opinions on the matter since I don't just write my books for me but others. I like to reflect different concepts of romance in my stories.

What do you think is romantic? An unasked for kiss, flowers, poetry (cringe)?

A Taste of What's to Come

2012 will be a very exciting year for me! Sometimes we work so hard for our dream that once we attain it's hard to sit back and enjoy the ride. Like every writer, I've had my times of struggle where the words were lacking or the story flat. But today, I'm not focusing on the bad. I want to think about the good and take a moment just absorb what the next year will be like.

Omegas in Love  Releasing March 19
Book Four of The Vanguards

Small Excerpt:
Leaping after Katrina, Tyler was intercepted midair. He hit the pavement with a bone-crunching impact. Air rushed out of his lungs while stars whirled around his head, yet he still managed to roll from the attack. He might not train like Eric, his alpha, or Robert, his beta, but Katrina had forced him to learn the basics of keeping his hide intact.

He jumped to his feet and faced his opponent. The dark, cold eyes of the unknown Asian male stared back from the face of the beast who’d attacked him. His companions had shifted, too.

Impending death confronted Tyler. Three shifters against one were terrible odds, especially for a shifter who worked as a real estate agent.
