This Christmas by @meganslayer #romance #gay @evernightpub #christmas #rockstar #gayromance

This Christmas by Megan Slayer

Christmas is the time to try again…

Tennessee Landes never stopped loving his ex-boyfriend Jordan Moore. The trouble is he sees Jordan everywhere because they’re both on the rock music scene in competing bands. It’s impossible not to cross paths. Tennessee’s never known why Jordan left and he’s determined this Christmas to set the record straight. He wants Jordan back.

Jordan’s struggle with his family and the abuses suffered in his past directed him away from Tennessee and he’s regretted leaving ever since. When he sees Tennessee’s heartfelt plea at a televised show, he finds the strength to reconnect with the man he loves.

Will Tennessee take him back or will Jordan’s past scratch any chance of a happy Christmas and future together?

Cullen nudged Tennessee. “Christmas is the time for love and second chances. We’re going to keep entertaining the masses and having fun. Spread cheer and joy, you know?” Tennessee asked. “Just have a great time.”

Cullen nodded. “Exactly.”

The presenter offered a dorky smile. Tennessee kept his own fake smile on his face. Everyone was pranking the audience with the false sense of fun. If the holiday season wasn’t being pushed so quickly and didn’t involve such terrible memories, Tennessee might have been more authentic.

The presenter turned specifically to Tennessee. His canned smile widened and seemed even more plastic. “Would you like to send a special Christmas message to anyone in particular?”

If there was ever a chance to speak directly to Jordan without being obvious, it was this one. He softened his grin. “Merry Christmas, you. It’s not Christmas without you.” He winked, happy that he’d stayed intentionally vague—unless Jordan saw it. He’d know exactly who you referred to.

If Jordan saw the sentiment, then he’d get it. If he wanted to reply, then he’d do it, but Tennessee didn’t expect anything. If nothing else, the fans couldn’t say he hadn’t reached out to Jordan first. He’d tried.

Christmas should be the time for laughter, good times, and fun.

Love, too?

It was time to jingle some bells and listen for a jolly tune in return. Right now, he had to hope Jordan heard it and wanted to sing the chorus with him.

Carsten held up his hands, then slid them down Will’s shoulders. “There’s so much you don’t understand.”

“I have my doubts.” He didn’t want Carsten to touch him, but he couldn’t seem to pull away. God Almighty, why did he have to be attracted to him? Even after all this time, the attraction was still there.

“Do you know where I was living during my senior year of high school?” Carsten asked.

“Wasn’t my business.” Even if he’d have asked, he’d have been assaulted so he didn’t bother.

“I lived with Nick Clain’s family because mine threw me out.”

Nick Clain? He remembered the guy. A soccer player with a nice ass and sweet smile. Nick wasn’t gay, either. But if Will remembered correctly, Nick and Carsten had been friends for years. “Why did they throw you out?” The last he knew, Carsten had everything going for him. He was the picture of what any Brookville kid should be—handsome, well-adjusted, and straight.

Except he wasn’t straight.

“They threw me out because I admitted I was gay back then.” Carsten kept his hands on Will’s shoulders. “That’s why I treated you so shitty. I hated that you were so able to be out and no one hated you for it. I hated that you had parents that fucking loved you. Everything went your way. I said I’d punch you into next week because that was something my father always said to me. Sick, isn’t it?”

He had to be talking about someone else. Things hadn’t gone his way in school. He’d had to learn to handle the backlash for his sexuality and how to be his own man. Yes, his parents had backed him all the way, but he’d never questioned that. They were his parents and had always been his biggest supporters.

“I hated that you were even on the prom court because I wanted to be the king,” Carsten said. “You were good at music and art.”

“But you’re good at football and must be good enough at music or you wouldn’t be on tour.” He didn’t understand what was going on or why he couldn’t seem to pull away from Carsten.

“You don’t get it.” Carsten shook his head. “It’s so plain, but even I didn’t get it back then.”

“Get what?” He hated when people spoke in riddles. “You were beaten, weren’t you?”

“My parents didn’t want a gay kid. They wanted a successful one. My father beat the ever-loving fuck out of me for being gay. You never saw the bruises because I tried so hard to hide them. When I took the time to learn my guitar and practice writing music, then got some actual success, they began to like me,” Carsten said. “I’m not anything to them if I can’t give them money.”

“That’s sick.” Truly.

“They hated that I was gay. My father left me bruised and battered.”

“That’s sicker.” And a piece of his heart broke for Carsten. He didn’t know what it was like to have parents who didn’t support him and couldn’t imagine being in Carsten’s place.

“It is and I hated myself, which made me hate you. I was so hurt and I wanted you to hurt, too. You were everything I wanted to be,” Carsten said. “Everything I wanted. So confident in your own skin. I had to hide mine.”

He paused. He had to have heard Carsten wrong. Everything he wanted? That made no sense. “What did you want?”

Carsten remained close to him and caressed Will’s shoulders. “You.”

Dylan.

He shouldn’t say anything. Should keep on walking.

“Hi there. Do you come here often?” Hell. Of all the things he could’ve said, Chase picked one of the worst pick-up lines…ever.

Dylan’s eyes narrowed. “Do I—we’ve met, haven’t we?”

“I’m sorry. I’m horrible at manners sometimes.” Chase offered his hand. “I’m Chase. We met at the Riley party.” He dropped his voice to a whisper. “I’m Mind Bender.”

“Oh!” Dylan’s eyes widened. “I hadn’t recognized you…but I bet that was the point.” His cheeks burned bright red and the color spread down his neck. “Can I say that was a good show, or will I get you into trouble?”

“Won’t get me into trouble. I appreciate the kind words.” Chase nodded to the cart. “I needed to get a few things. Care to walk with me, or are you nearly done?”

“I’m trying to get my shopping done while Nathan’s at swim camp.” Dylan gripped the cart. “The kid is a fish.”

“He’s your only child?” Chase pulled up beside Dylan and walked the rest of the way down the frozen food aisle.

“Just one. My partner and I couldn’t decide on another one.” Dylan’s blush deepened. “It’s a long story.”

“But I bet it’s a good one.” Chase missed being able to converse with other adults. The people at the store were okay, but they weren’t Dylan. The spark from the party hadn’t been in his imagination. He and Dylan seemed to be able to talk quite well.

“The story has its good parts, but there are bad parts, too.” Dylan stopped. “How much more do you have to buy?”

“Truth be told, I’m done.” Chase grinned. “I didn’t need much.”

“If you’re done, do you want to grab a cup of coffee? The little shop allows carts. I’ve only got a few more things to get.” Dylan flexed his fingers on the cart handle. The indentation of a wedding ring was evident, but not deep. Divorced? Split up? Chase wanted to know and yet, he didn’t want to ask.

“I’d like that,” Chase said. “I’ll pay for my things while you finish, then meet you at the coffee shop in, what, ten minutes?”

“Sounds good.”

Paying for his items didn’t take the entire ten minutes. For once, the lines at the store moved quickly. Chase tucked his change into his wallet. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d gotten through the line in less than fifteen minutes. He pushed the cart to the coffee shop. Most of the tables were empty and one of the booths was free. He pushed the cart behind the booth and plopped onto the wooden seat.

His skin prickled. Being around Dylan heightened his senses. What was it about the dad that kept him on the edge? He eased his phone from his pocket and switched the ringer to silent. If anyone needed him that bad, they could wait. As he sat there, the saltshaker began to levitate. Oh fuck. He grabbed the glass container and held it to the tabletop. No, no, no. His powers weren't allowed to go haywire. They weren't.

Novella

Love on the lake? With a merman? Impossible. Or is it?

Camryn Matthews knows how to make music and dance, but he’s tired of living a lie. Being part of the recording group Low Down is fine, but he can’t be himself. The fans want a fantasy, not a gay man. Besides that, he can’t make the music in his soul. Where’s a man to look when he needs a fresh start?

Rian’s the prince of the mers, and he’s tired of being used. He wants someone to love him for his song. When he hears the sweet, low voice coming from the cruise ship, he knows he’s found his match. But will the human sacrifice everything to live in Paradise, deep in the heart of Lake Erie?

He stared out at the darkness of Lake Erie. Jesus. He was on a cruise around Lake Fucking Erie. He’d grown up in Cleveland and wasn’t fazed by the lake. He also didn’t see the attraction. The band could’ve chosen to cruise the Keys or the Bahamas and they’d picked… Lake Erie. Then again, the band wasn’t the powerhouse they’d been a year ago.
The music business had shifted. Vocal groups who danced weren’t popular. Chanteuses were. Singer-songwriters who sat alone on stage with a guitar were in vogue. He couldn’t blame the band for wanting to chase the spotlight and keep the fans.

The best way to keep the fans was to go to them… and cruise Lake Erie.

He drank in the darkness of the water and sighed. The lines of his longest solo came to mind. He sang the song. Who cared if he wasn’t on stage? He wasn’t sick any longer, but heartsick.

“I’m looking for my special one. The one who makes me come undone,” he sang. “Who sees me to my core, who can’t love me even more.”

He’d written those words for his high-school crush. Taye never knew he’d been the object of Camryn’s affection. How could he? Camryn hadn’t come out, and Taye wasn’t homosexual.
He sang the lines again. The music wasn’t gone, and he still loved to sing. He might not be the loudest, but he had a rich sound. Honeyed, he’d been told.

Another sound caught his attention. Someone was singing with him. He paused. Were the guys coming upstairs? Were they in another suite? Coming onto the deck?

The song came to him again. Low, honeyed like him, but sadder.

He sang the lines of the song a third time. The voice mixed with his, making beautiful harmony. Natural harmony. He stopped singing. Where was the vocalist?

He moved to the edge of his balcony and searched the visible parts of the decks for the singer. No people came into view.

“Where are you?” Camryn asked. “Who are you?” He would love to meet this vocalist. “Hello?”

Thanksgiving, Windstorms and Power Outages with @MeganSlayer #gay #gayromance #erotic #life

It's craziness at my house. It's the day after Thanksgiving and we lost power on Wednesday due to the horrible wind storm, then due to the same storm, lost internet on Thanksgiving, so I'm getting back up to speed on things...like blogging. Thankfully, we have power and internet, so I'm back in business. But it made for an interesting Thanksgiving, wondering if we'd have power to cook with. Internet, it's not the best thing to lose it, but it's not horrible, either. I kind of liked having the day to be with family and not worry about anything else.

Since I'm getting back up to speed, here's a preview of one of my Thanksgiving themed stories. I love this series and am happy to share it with you!

Harvest Moon by Megan Slayer

Moon Series, book 2
Also part of the Bleh! Turkey! Series
MLR Press
Contemporary, Paranormal, Holiday
Short Story
M/M, Anal Sex
What's a guy to do when the time to be with family is the time he dreads the most?

All Matt Green wants for Thanksgiving is to propose to his boyfriend in the most epic way he knows-in front of their families. There's only one catch. His boyfriend, Reed Jordan, doesn't do family gatherings. To be honest, Reed isn't wild about Thanksgiving, but he won't say why.

Matt's willing to do anything in order to get Reed to talk, but will it make the holiday perfect or or ruin all of Matt's plans? The Harvest Moon just might be the right omen to make everything all right.

Reed stood at the counter. He’d told his boyfriend he’d be home at three. The way things were looking, he’d be more than an hour late. Damn it.
Beside him, his co-worker, Jagger, rang up a female customer with a little girl. The woman had bought a couple of Thanksgiving books. The brightly colored turkey and leaves on the top book caught Reed’s attention.
Thanksgiving. He didn’t mind giving thanks for the good things in his life. He also didn’t mind the food. What he hated were the gatherings. He wished the need to bring family to one house was not the rule. Maybe he was losing his mind, but he hated the togetherness. He’d been able to dodge the holiday for the last ten years, but since he’d met Matt, he knew he wasn’t going to get around the festivities for much longer. Matt liked family functions and preferred big parties. Reed wasn’t even sure a big family party was possible.
He finished typing out a reply email to the customer in search of an out-of-print book. Thankfully, the store had the book. He sent the customer the expected price and shipping options. He glanced at his watch once more. Less than two days until Thanksgiving. The store would be open on Wednesday, but he wasn’t working. If the customer needed the book, he could wait until Friday.
The last time he and Matt had talked about the holiday, Matt’s sister, Emily and her boyfriend were supposed to be spending the day with them. He could handle that. He liked Matt’s sister and loved her son, Nattie. Still, he wanted a small dinner, not a gigantic situation. He sighed. At least with Em and Matt, he wasn’t going to have to deal with accusations.
“I’m off until Friday morning,” Reed said to Jagger. “If there is a crisis, call me, but try not to have a crisis.”
“That’s the plan.” Jagger grinned. “You can trust us. We won’t let you down. Now go, so Matt doesn’t think you got lost.”
“Deal.”

Shifters and Halloween! Oh my! @meganslayer #shifters #gay #gayromance #catshifters #sanctuaryseries #halloween

It's that time of year to be scary and have a spooky time. I love this time of year because I have a thing for cats. Okay, shifters, to be exact. I love the idea of cats, dogs, big cats, etc switching forms and becoming people. I've always thought my cats and dogs could really be people. They've got so much personality. What do you think? Is it too far-fetched? Let me know.

Speaking of shifters, give my Sanctuary series a try!

He left his seat. “I’m going out. I need some air.” He walked out of the library and collided with a solid wall of man. “What the hell?” He knew the scent wafting around him. Oscar? He met the gaze of the person he’d run into. “Oscar.”
“Hi.” Oscar blushed. “I meant to find you.”
“You did.” He wanted to run his hands all over Oscar. The lion knew the bobcat was there, and he wanted to keep him. The lion yearned to rub his scent all over Oscar. He held back, despite the cat shredding him from the inside.
Oscar opened his mouth three times before he said anything. “Are you going to leave?”
No way in hell. Oscar was there, and he’d take advantage of the situation. “With Markas? Or those two?” He gestured to the library.
Oscar edged his shoulder up in a tiny shrug. “Either.”
Was he trying to be coy? Was that hunger in Oscar’s eyes? Desire? Well, fuck him, yes, it sure looked like desire. Avan nodded to the doorway then brushed past Oscar. The lion hated Avan for making it wait.
“Let’s go to the porch.” His voice cracked. Damn. He didn’t care if Oscar knew he was nervous, but he didn’t want the truth to be so obvious.
“Yeah.” Oscar followed Avan outside. “Phew. It got hot in there. Did they have the heat on? It’s May. Isn’t it too warm out for the heat inside?”
“I doubt they turned on the furnace.” But it was nice to know Oscar was affected, too. Avan had thought he was the only one with a fever. He needed the change in temperature to clear his thoughts. “Here.” He pointed to the swing. “Join me?”
“The guys won’t make fun?” Oscar sat with him. “I’m not exactly popular with them. Ryder even jokes about me, and he’s supposed to be a friend.”
“Why?” Once Avan found out why Ryder had said anything to upset Oscar, he’d give Ryder a new asshole.
“I stuck up for you.” His blush deepened. “He’s a jerk.”
“He is.” He paused. Oscar intrigued him. He hadn’t thought Oscar cared—not enough to say anything. “I’m glad.”
“You’re happy he’s a jerk?” Oscar frowned. “I wish he’d lay off.” He stared at Avan. “Ryder told me I’m attracted to you, and everyone knows. I didn’t know.” He froze, and the color bled from his face. “Shit.”
“What?” He didn’t care who saw them. “Do you like me?” He and his lion wanted the attraction to be mutual. “Oscar?”
“I don’t know.” Oscar sagged in his seat. “Avan.”
Avan faced Oscar and tipped up Oscar’s chin, forcing Oscar to meet his gaze. “I get the feeling you do like me.” He wanted to look into those green eyes forever—especially when he sank deep into Oscar. “But I understand you’re not ready to admit it, and that’s cool.”
“It is?”

Soft Granite by @MeganSlayer #gay #gayromance #PNR #romance #paranormal

Soft Granite by Megan Slayer
Contemporary Paranormal Gay Romance
From Evernight Publishing

Celestial Mates, 5
What happens when the curse goes wrong, but the outcome is all right?

Ryan Rourke wasn’t looking for love when he sat at the foot of the statue, Michael Emerging. The inanimate object listens and he could swear there’s someone beneath the granite. One night he gives into his desire and kisses the statue. It won’t hurt anything, right? It’s just a granite statue—except there’s a soul in the cold rock.

Indio fell in love with Ryan the moment the shy college junior spoke to him the first time. The tenderness, warmth, and sense of humor were everything Indio wanted—if he weren’t trapped in granite. The attraction is stronger than he ever thought possible. Can Ryan’s kiss free him forever? Or will the power of Zeus and the majesty of the curse be too much to overcome? If Indio has his way, he will get his man.

Available wherever ebooks are sold!

Excerpt:
Ryan followed Indio into the building. He couldn’t wrap his mind around what had happened. Indio was real. He glanced back at the empty platform. He’d seen Indio walk off the stone slab and his skin turn from harsh gray to pale peach. If Ryan believed what he’d seen, then the curse story was possible.
He walked into the first life drawing room. Indio darted ahead and snagged one of the robes the models wore between stints posing nude.
Although he should be on his guard, Ryan swept his gaze over Indio’s nude form. For a man who’d spent time in stone, he was still toned. A bit pale, but if he’d been out of the sun, he would be pasty. His inky black hair curled over his forehead. When he glanced back at Ryan, his icy blue eyes sparkled. He strode with purpose, but not swagger. His velvety voice slid down Ryan’s spine and Ryan longed to grab his tight ass. Ryan wanted to gawk at Indio’s package, but also didn’t want to look too eager.
Indio covered his nudity in a robe. “Where do you want to start? I’ll explain everything.”
“I’d like to start by undressing you and licking my way all over your body,” Ryan blurted. Shit. He’d said that out loud.
“For a man who seemed afraid of me, you’re forward. I like it.” Indio sat on one of the drawing benches. “When I convince you I’m real, we will kiss again. You’re a good kisser.”
Convince? He could see a real man who’d stepped out of a statue. There was no need to prove what he’d seen. Still, he should apologize for what he’d said. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that out loud.”
“I don’t mind. I want to kiss and explore you, too.” Indio grinned. “I’ve learned if I want someone, I need to be honest and go for him.”
“You want me? Or someone else?” He needed to stop talking.
“I do.”

Trusting Nat ~ A Sanctuary Story by @MeganSlayer #shifters #gayromance #gay #paranormal #erotic #NSFW

I love a good paranormal series and my series, Sanctuary, is one of my favorites. I've been thinking about the series lately and want to get back to it. Seems like there aren't enough hours in the day sometimes. I think I'll make it my goal for January to write the next Sanctuary story then. Like that idea? I do, too. Here's a taste of the series, featuring a shy character and the shifter that gets him out of his shell.

Trusting Nat by Megan Slayer
Sanctuary, Book 2
SuperNova Indie Publishing
Contemporary Paranormal Gay Romance
Novella
M/M, Anal Sex

The key to his humanity is finding his place in the pride.

Sydney came to Sanctuary believing he wasn’t anything other than the runt of the litter. Strengths? According to the others, he had none. But one special shifter seems to think otherwise—Nat. To bring out the brave side of Syd, he’ll need to trust.

Nat has always known he’s a beta. No question. He’s drawn to Syd and wants to find out if their existence at the Sanctuary should be more than platonic. When he and Syd are called upon to bring back more lions from the petting zoo, he not only sees Syd’s true potential, but realizes his true feelings for the fellow shifter.

Can these two shifters forge an alliance and grow together or will their heated experiments between the sheets be the end for them both?

EXCERPT:

“Grab the back of the couch and hold on. This won’t take long.” John maneuvered his hand between their bodies. “I can’t wait to be inside you.”
I can’t wait to see it. Syd slid his palm down his torso to his jean-covered dick. He needed to run upstairs and jerk off, but he didn’t want to miss the show.
“Breathe and bear down on me.” John stroked himself and turned enough for Syd to see what he was about to do. He tapped the pink rosette of Markas’ ass then eased inside. Inch by inch, he pushed into Markas’ body until he sank balls deep. Slow at first but gaining speed, he rubbed against Markas. In then out until just the tip of his cock remained within Markas.
“That’s what I need,” Markas said. “You know exactly what I want.”
“I do.” John nipped Markas’ earlobe. He increased the speed of his thrusts. A fine sheen of sweat glistened on his arms and back.
Syd closed his eyes and imagined himself in Markas’ place, but he wasn’t imagining John fucking him. No. He wasn’t the type to step in on someone else’s situation. He wanted his own man.
A shiver raced up his spine. Who did he want? Nat. Crazy, since he could almost guarantee Nat wasn’t interested. Still, a man could dream.

I'm Late Again...The Story of My Life... @meganslayer #gayromance #gay #writing #meganslayer #late #iamwriting

I seem to have a talent for being late. I used to say I preferred to be early. I used to say I was good at arriving on time or being ahead of time. Why? Because I'm not wild about the embarrassed entrance or having to explain where I was.

That used to be the case.

Then life got involved. Oy. It's not been my month. I'll admit it. This has not been my month. If it can go wrong, it has. If it can go sideways...you guessed it. I won't go into details, but every time I think I'm getting ahead, I'm behind.

Which is why this post is going up, but later than I wanted. I can say this. I've been writing. I have. I've gotten good words on the document and I'm happy for that. I'm writing about dogs, which I love, so that's good, too. I'm competing in NaNo. I love that event. Maybe it'll help me get back to on time? I hope so.

So since we're just upon Halloween, here's a hot treat. My book, Craving His Roar. Check it out!

Jesse’s never stayed in one place for very long. Being a lynx shifter, he enjoys a solitary life. Then, like a bad joke, the lynx shifter walks into the bar to listen to a cover band. The singer isn’t anything he expects, but everything he desires. But can a human and shifter make a relationship work?

Colin knows two things: he wants a life beyond the Mad Dog bar and for his band, the Full Collins Experience, to play more than just Phil Collins cover songs. The moment he sees Jesse, he’s smitten. He knows nothing about shifters, but his heart craves Jesse. There’s no guarantee the twosome will go beyond the bedroom, but Colin’s willing to try.

Can the loner really find a mate? Will his mate be everything he craves? Or will the human run the other way?

Poking the Muse (Who, Maybe, I Shouldn't Be Keeping in a Cage and Starving) by Jane Kindred

A couple of months ago, I mentioned that my muse seemed to have gone dark. I was hoping by this month’s blog post I’d have a happy “I’m writing so fast my fingers are cramping” post to write. Alas, I haven’t written a single word.

I know a lot of people don’t believe in writer’s block. They think it’s an excuse lazy people make for not being willing to put “butt in chair” and just do the work. I suspect those same people tell their depressed friends that if they just went outside and got some exercise and counted their blessings every day, they’d feel better.

I don’t know if this is writer’s block. I just know that I want to be writing, I have time to write, and I am not writing. I see other writers on Twitter talking about drowning in plot bunnies, telling their new characters clamoring for a story to get in line. And there’s nothing in my head.

Well, not entirely nothing. There are two characters who keep dancing at the edges of my dreams, but they refuse to come out into the light and play. I named them the other day—Armand and William—in hopes of coaxing them out of hiding, but to no avail. I know the skeleton of their story (it’s based on a popular fairy tale), and I have vague images of a fog-shrouded setting of stone statuary and an empty, cobwebbed manor estate, but Armand and William remain stubbornly silent.

I think part of my problem is that the panic of a deadline isn’t looming over me, and I’ve gotten used to panic-writing. Another part is my aging cat, who howls bloody murder if I do anything but sit on the bed and let him have my lap. Not to mention the existential angst of living in 2018. But if I had a real story brewing, those things wouldn’t matter (or at least they would be mere details, obstacles, incidental).

In the meantime, I’m anxious and worried about everything. Which is something I’ve always lived with, but not writing definitely exacerbates it. It’s like a constant feeling in the back of my mind that I’m going to get in trouble, I’ve done something wrong, or some karmic fate is going to catch up to me, some disaster I cannot escape.

Spinning other people’s fates has always had a remarkably calming effect on that background noise. I often wonder if other writers use their writing this way, consciously or otherwise. Giving their characters problems and flaws that they can eventually triumph over. Writing worlds that they, the author, can control when everything in the real, mundane world is so often out of our control. Writing as therapy. Maybe that’s something I can do. Maybe.

Maybe I’m doing it right now.

Maybe Armand and William need a therapist.
