Love can be found in the places least expected.

Seth Reilly went to the animal shelter to comfort the cats during the loud noises on the Fourth of July. He had no idea the lumpy, grumpy black cat named Maui isn’t just a cat. He’s a shifter and he’s hot as hell. Seth hadn’t planned on adopting a cat, but he can’t leave the shifter behind.

Jeremy Peters never expected to lose his human side for so long. Then again, he never expected to land in an animal shelter, either. Now he’s got the chance to be free, but he’d rather rub against his sexy human rescuer.

When troubles from their past come back to mess with their happy home, can Seth and Jeremy find a future together?

Shifters and Halloween! Oh my! @meganslayer #shifters #gay #gayromance #catshifters #sanctuaryseries #halloween

It's that time of year to be scary and have a spooky time. I love this time of year because I have a thing for cats. Okay, shifters, to be exact. I love the idea of cats, dogs, big cats, etc switching forms and becoming people. I've always thought my cats and dogs could really be people. They've got so much personality. What do you think? Is it too far-fetched? Let me know.

Speaking of shifters, give my Sanctuary series a try!

Embracing His Roar by Megan Slayer

Sanctuary, Book 11
Gay Paranormal Erotic Romance
Novella
From SuperNova Indie Publishing

A bobcat who doesn’t think he belongs and a lion who believes he is unlovable…can they make a relationship work?

Avan has made his share of mistakes, but those are in the past. Moving forward means forgiving himself and having a life at the Sanctuary. He wants just one shifter—Oscar. The bobcat shifter soothes his soul and seems to see the best in Avan. But will he want to be with Avan, even after everything Avan’s done?

Oscar’s lusted after Avan since he first saw him. He doesn’t care what Avan’s done because he believes everyone deserves a second chance. But Oscar’s got a past, too. He’d never felt like he belongs, even at the Sanctuary. The one place he feels safe is with Avan.

The odds a bobcat and lion should be together are low, but the passion between them sizzles. Can they find common ground and embrace their roar or will their differences destroy the blossoming relationship?

He left his seat. “I’m going out. I need some air.” He walked out of the library and collided with a solid wall of man. “What the hell?” He knew the scent wafting around him. Oscar? He met the gaze of the person he’d run into. “Oscar.”
“Hi.” Oscar blushed. “I meant to find you.”
“You did.” He wanted to run his hands all over Oscar. The lion knew the bobcat was there, and he wanted to keep him. The lion yearned to rub his scent all over Oscar. He held back, despite the cat shredding him from the inside.
Oscar opened his mouth three times before he said anything. “Are you going to leave?”
No way in hell. Oscar was there, and he’d take advantage of the situation. “With Markas? Or those two?” He gestured to the library.
Oscar edged his shoulder up in a tiny shrug. “Either.”
Was he trying to be coy? Was that hunger in Oscar’s eyes? Desire? Well, fuck him, yes, it sure looked like desire. Avan nodded to the doorway then brushed past Oscar. The lion hated Avan for making it wait.
“Let’s go to the porch.” His voice cracked. Damn. He didn’t care if Oscar knew he was nervous, but he didn’t want the truth to be so obvious.
“Yeah.” Oscar followed Avan outside. “Phew. It got hot in there. Did they have the heat on? It’s May. Isn’t it too warm out for the heat inside?”
“I doubt they turned on the furnace.” But it was nice to know Oscar was affected, too. Avan had thought he was the only one with a fever. He needed the change in temperature to clear his thoughts. “Here.” He pointed to the swing. “Join me?”
“The guys won’t make fun?” Oscar sat with him. “I’m not exactly popular with them. Ryder even jokes about me, and he’s supposed to be a friend.”
“Why?” Once Avan found out why Ryder had said anything to upset Oscar, he’d give Ryder a new asshole.
“I stuck up for you.” His blush deepened. “He’s a jerk.”
“He is.” He paused. Oscar intrigued him. He hadn’t thought Oscar cared—not enough to say anything. “I’m glad.”
“You’re happy he’s a jerk?” Oscar frowned. “I wish he’d lay off.” He stared at Avan. “Ryder told me I’m attracted to you, and everyone knows. I didn’t know.” He froze, and the color bled from his face. “Shit.”
“What?” He didn’t care who saw them. “Do you like me?” He and his lion wanted the attraction to be mutual. “Oscar?”
“I don’t know.” Oscar sagged in his seat. “Avan.”
Avan faced Oscar and tipped up Oscar’s chin, forcing Oscar to meet his gaze. “I get the feeling you do like me.” He wanted to look into those green eyes forever—especially when he sank deep into Oscar. “But I understand you’re not ready to admit it, and that’s cool.”
“It is?”

His phone beeped and vibrated in his hand. He tensed at the sound. The noise came back. He should look at the screen. Should. His heart hammered, and the lion clawed at him from within. He turned his attention from the big cat to the phone. A gigantic arrow with Justin’s photo in it bounced back and forth on the screen. He touched the arrow and held his breath. Justin had replied.
Hi. Saw you, too. I’d like to talk. Tell me about you.
Holy shit. Excitement rippled through him. The lion stood at attention within him, equally thrilled. Zeus blew out the breath he’d held. What should he say? He didn’t want to sound silly.
I’m thirty-three. Single. I work @ a shelter. He paused. What else should he add? I’m looking for love.
He hit send before he could delete the words he’d typed. He probably sounded ridiculous. When Justin replied, Zeus yelped. He glanced over at Joe, who didn’t seem to have noticed.
Love, huh? Are you a romantic?
A romantic? More like a horny bastard who wanted sex that might become love. He drummed his fingers on the desk. Answering would be smart.
Justin replied first. Oh. You’re unsure? I’m a romantic. There’s someone out there for everyone, and I’m looking for my someone.
Damn. Justin was a romantic or, at least, came across that way. Maybe, the sweetness was a little much, but oh well. He’d never know if he didn’t try. Want to meet? You sound like my kind of guy.

I Can't Write Today...I've Got Cat Fur in My Keyboard with @MeganSlayer

Silly title for a blog post, eh? I think so. The sad part? It's true. I had to spend more than half an hour this morning cleaning out my keyboard because it was clogged with cat fur. Now don't get the wrong idea. I don't let the cats live on my computer. Heck, I spend a lot of time trying to get them to leave me alone while I'm writing. It doesn't work, but I try.

Like right now. I've got two cats observing everything I'm doing. Why? Because they can. The black on is extremely interested in the freshly cleaned keyboard - don't you know that's where paws are supposed to go? He's also interested in the plastic bag he keeps tapping with his tail as he swishes it. All of the while, he's staring at me. I'm not sure what he thinks I'm going to do. It's not dinner time. Won't be for at least twelve more hours. Ah... now the pen I was using to jot down notes is in my lap because said black cat chose it as a toy. I also have smaller sheets of paper I have left over from a con where I did a 'write our own story' situation. It was a fun situation and everyone had a piece of paper where they wrote five words we could use to start a story or keep it going. I had more than enough paper, so a bunch of it came home with me. I use it for notes instead of buying sticky notes. Needless to say, some get lost. But that's another story. Right now, the black cat is pushing those papers across the desk in an attempt to ensure gravity does indeed work.

And...he's proven gravity does exist.

Then there's fast orange. We named him that because well...he's not very fast and DH had a can of Fast Orange cleaner in the garage. He's more like Garfield. He sits. He observes and he's cranky. He's also going on twelve years old. Anyway, he's to my left. It's like being surrounded by Halloween - orange and black. But I digress. Back to fast orange. He's on my left chewing on a notebook. Yes, chewing on it. Why? Probably because he can. I haven't added many notes to said notebook, so it's not super vital at the moment, but when it will be...he'll be there.

I've also got a dog on the couch near the desk. She's snoring. Gagging in her reverse sneeze sort of way and passing gas. It's a real party in my office.

I didn't mention my 'office' is really a multi-purpose room containing my desk, my books and a dog couch plus various cat toys. Yeah, it's not exactly conducive to working sometimes.

With all of this said, is it no wonder sometimes that I don't get much done. I'm sure I'm not the only author with pushy critters and fur in places it doesn't belong. I can't be. But this got me thinking about shifters. When the wolf/panther/lion/etc is in his or her shifted form, they have to shed. I mean, what animal doesn't? I'd almost hate to be the author who has the lion shifter in my home and has to clean up after that shedded fur. Almost. I mean, if the lion looked like Chris Evans or James McAvoy...I might make a few exceptions.

Just sayin'.

So speaking of Shifters... here's a little about my latest shifter story, Finding His Roar:

Cat Flash is out now!

The final story in my Stray Cats series is out now. The final chapter! I'm both excited and sad. Excited because I love this series. Who doesn't like black cats? I've got one and he's a real piece of work. He's a pistol but so loving and snuggly. At the same time, I'm sad. I knew this series had to end because it needed closure. But I didn't want to let the kitties go.

So when I set out to write the final story, I knew I had to give the series the proper send off. Adrian doesn't get to come into his shifting powers right away. He's got to wait an extra year--not that he minds. He likes being a cat. Meliana isn't the average human. Nope. She's exactly what Adrian needs, although he doesn't realize that at first. She's a witch.

The weather is getting cooler and it's nearing Halloween. Why not curl up with a black cat, his witch and a fun short story? If that sounds good to you, then why not try Cat Flash and the others in the Stray Cats series? :-)

Meliana has denied her powers as a witch because she'd rather fit into society. She doesn't want to stand out, but a woman with blue hair and the power to work magic doesn't necessarily blend in. She got the cat in an attempt to be normal, but this kitty has a secret and it's guaranteed to surprise.

As she blinked and shifted on the bed, an arm curled tighter around her.
She froze. An arm? What the fuck? She lived with a cat. A thick cock slid between her ass cheeks. She screamed. A cock of any sorts was not supposed to be in her bed.
“Meli, it’s fine. No one broke in.”
She had no idea who the hell just said that, but the fact they’d used her name freaked her out even more. She opened her mouth to scream, but no sound came out. She tried to thrash, but couldn’t move.
Her body warred with her brain. Normally, having a cock between her ass cheeks made her happy -- when she knew who the cock belonged to and how he knew her name… like her ex-boyfriend Lane, but he wasn’t there. He’d left her for another woman. He’d told her to go to hell when she’d called, so no doubt he wasn’t there.
Her pussy throbbed. No sex in more than four months made the lady parts not so happy and apparently extremely responsive to crazy-ass people who’d climbed into her bed.
Screw it. She’d give this stranger a piece of her mind before he took a piece of her ass. She rolled over and stared into a set of yellow-green eyes. The man, stubble sprinkled on his cheeks and his inky black hair mussed from sleep, grinned. He had a dimple. She was a sucker for dimples. No, no, she had to get back to the point and get the jackass out of her bed.
“Who are you and why are you in my bed?” There. She’d asked the questions. “Get out of here.”
“I’ve been in your bed for the two years, sweetheart.” The smile faded and he shrank back from her. “Meli? It’s me, Chaos… er… Adrian.”
She slumped back onto the bed and her jaw slackened. Her cat was a hunky human-looking male named Adrian? Holy shit.
Adrian crawled off the bed, taking the sheet with him. He barely covered his toned body with the bedding. His nipples beaded. A thin trail of black hair led just below his belly button and disappeared beneath the sheet. She pressed her lips together. She shouldn’t be gawking at him, but the man was sexy. She could never attract someone like him.
“Then tell me, if you’re Chaos, how you got here and why you’re a guy now.” She folded her arms. “How’d I end up with a cat shifter? I was supposed to have a plain old black cat.”
“I’m a shifter.” He shrugged. “I took a little longer to mature than the others, I suppose. Your grandmother rescued me and my three brothers. The others were adopted out. I’m assuming they found good homes. Hildy wouldn’t just hand them over to anyone. She knew you and I would suit each other and made sure she brought us together. I’ve been with you for the last two years, babe. I know what you are and what you can do.”
Realization washed over her. If he was truly her cat, then he had seen everything. He could do one hell of a lot of damage.
Adrian crept to the side of the bed and sat next to her. “I know this is a lot to take in. I’m not totally used to this either.” He gestured down his body. “I have to figure out what all to do with me -- although I’ve got some definite ideas.”

“It’s the mind control spell.” She was grasping at straws. Her cat could not be a shifter. The idea wasn’t even possible. She’d picked out a perfectly normal kitten who’d grown into an overly hyper but normal cat… who happened to be missing. “Where is Chaos? I want my cat back.”

Cat Shifters...Normal...Black Cat Shifters...HOT STUFF

I like shifters. I do. I like that they can be two things. I especially like cats. I'm probably in the early stages of being a crazy cat lady. Hey. It happens. To celebrate my love of cats, cat shifters and hot guys, I wrote the Stray Cats series. This particular book, Cat Groove, has an episode from my life. Okay, so I didn't have a cat actually turn into a hot guy reminiscent of Colin O'Donahue from Once Upon A Time, but I've had to chase cats down for flea baths. Read on!

Stray Cats -- Book 3: Cat Groove

He’s found his mate and his groove, but he’s got to convince her they belong together.

Watching his woman with another man just about killed Roman. His heart beat for Jessa. His ability to switch over to his human form has allowed him to show her his other side, but will he scare her away? He’s willing to work his grove in order to win the heart of the woman he loves.

“Damn it, Roman, get back here. I’m not very in love with you right now.” Jessa tossed the towel onto the floor, then raced after her black cat. “Whoever said he was calm should’ve had to bathe him.” With him speeding ahead of her, she sprinted down the hallway.
“Come back here.” Her hair flew in her eyes and her chest hurt from the scratches inflicted moments earlier when she’d first introduced him to the water.
Roman backed himself into a corner and hissed, his gold eyes blazing.
“Don’t make me have to tackle you.” Jessa crouched and took her best offensive stance. She counted to three, then lunged. An earth-shattering screech echoed in the room, but she managed to grab him. When she looked down into her curled arms, the cat struggled, but couldn’t free himself.
“You are a brat -- cute, but a brat.” She kept him tight in her grasp and marched back to the bathroom. “If you weren’t one gigantic flea, this wouldn’t be necessary.”
Upon entering the bathroom, she kicked the door shut. “Now try and get away.” She glanced around for where the cat shampoo had landed. “This won’t take long.”
The cat scampered from her arms and skidded on the rug. He collided with the bathroom door. When he fell back, instead of a black cat, a man -- a naked man -- lay sprawled in his place.
Jessa dropped the towel she’d picked up and sat down hard on the edge of the tub. “What the hell just happened?” She knew what she’d seen... her cat had morphed into a man.
The guy shook his head, his dark hair ruffling with each shake, then glanced over his shoulder. “Now do you see why I don’t need a flea bath?”
“I don’t understand what I’m seeing.” Jessa balled her fists. What the hell was she supposed to do? Locked in a bathroom with a strange man. “What’s going on here?”
“I’ve got a knot on my head from the door.” The guy turned around and rested against the wooden door. “Remind me not to run full blast away from you.” He rubbed his forehead. “But I’m kind of glad this happened. I was tired of being a cat.”

I didn't Forget... I got Behind

Ever have that happen? You think, okay, I'm on the ball and will get this done...then life happens. I seem to be having a case of life happening a lot. Was talking with tot today and he was upset about feeling dumb. I asked him how he believed he was dumb. "Because I forget everything."

I knew exactly how he felt. I have post-it notes all over with plot things I want to remember. I've got lists for what I need at the store in various parts of my purse. The notebook I keep with me has more than just story ideas. It's got posting reminders and grocery lists and pretty much whatever else I might want to remember. Google calendar loves me because I've got multiple things in there telling me what not to forget.

And yet, I forget a lot of stuff. I think that's part of the life of an author. You have so much going on you forget some stuff. That's me. I made a resolution to be better prepared and to remember to do what I had to do. Involved in that was the actual DOING of the stuff planned. So far? I'm not exactly hitting high marks. I'll get better. I will. Grin.

Here's my latest paranormal offering, Cat Style, from the Stray Cats series at Changeling Press!

Cat Style (Stray Cats, bk 2) by Megan Slayer

Word Count: 10K
Page Count: 37
Genres: Erotic Romance, Novella, Paranormal
Themes: Shapehifters, Magic

He’s got cat style, but does he have what it takes to win her heart?
Penelope went to the witch’s house to look at the cats, not bring one home. The moment she spotted the tiny fur baby with huge green eyes, she lost her heart. But Hildegard’s cats aren’t all they seem. One skeptical owner plus one affectionate shifter equals love cat-style -- but will love prevail over the evil threatening to kill her furry best friend?

And a Hot Excerpt!

“Meow.”
She knew that sound. “Fang! It’s Halloween. How in the name of God did you get out? I had you in the bedroom so you wouldn’t get loose.” She scooped the cat into her arms and flipped the switch to turn off the porch light. “You can be a real poop sometimes.” She nudged the door shut with her hip then engaged the lock. As per usual, the cat cuddled in her grasp and purred. She plunked him on the couch. “What am I going to do with you? Huh? I’ll get that bell I’ve threatened to put on you.”
Penelope sighed and closed her eyes. She rubbed her temple. As much as she loved the cat, he drove her crazy. “I should take you to the vet and have you fixed,” she grumbled. “That would teach you.”
“I suppose you could, but what fun is that?”
She opened her eyes. Instead of her black cat lounging on the couch, a dark-haired man with a hint of scruff on his cheeks and not a stitch of clothing on sat in his place.
“You’re not Fang.” Not her best response, but who in the hell was he? She balled her fists, ready to punch the intruder. “What did you do with my cat and how the hell did you get in?”
“Penn, it’s me, Fang. My mother called me Ascher, and I rather like it better.” He rose to his feet. “I don’t want to hurt you. I’d rather be back in your arms.”
Her brain misfired. A nude man, handsome at that, in her house and wanting to be in her arms? And he claimed to be her cat? She wobbled on her feet. The room went blurry, then black. When she opened her eyes, the man was crouching over her.
“Penn? Fuck.” His eyebrows crinkled and he smoothed her hair from her face. “I knew I should’ve told you yesterday but there wasn’t time.”
“You’re a strange man in my house.” She scrambled to an upright position. “Get the fuck out.” Where in the hell were her purse and her mace?
“Penn.”
“You don’t know me.” She inched away from him. Instead of coming after her, the naked man sat still. “Now get out.”
“I do so know you, Penelope.” He pinched the bridge of his nose between his index finger and thumb. “Wait.” He grabbed a pillow to cover his crotch, then sat on the floor. “I know. Piss-poor timing to hide my junk. I’m sorry.” He sighed. “When you went to Hildegard’s to get a kitten, you were handed me. You didn’t know you wanted me until you saw the fluff on my ears. You loved that I had those funny tufts of fur.”
“No.” She shook her head. “No, no.” The man knew too much about her cat. What a lunatic! She grabbed her purse and rummaged for the bottle of mace -- all without moving her attention from his face.
“You wondered why I hadn’t been nabbed yet.”
Shit. Those were just about her words exactly.
“Hildegard said I’d be exactly what you needed. I can be, but you have to believe me and trust me.” He finally moved toward her. “Please?”
“I’m supposed to believe a naked man in my house is my cat? Not on your life.” And yet, somewhere in her brain his story made sense.

“I’ll show you.”

And now an excerpt!

1

“What a way to spend the holidays.” Charise Sutton scanned the medical sheets on the tigers under her care. Volunteering to care for the animals over the holiday break had seemed like a good idea—back when the other workers were still at the zoo. Instead, there she was, alone on the night before Christmas. Well, alone save for the bare-bones staff. For once, she wished she still had family around. Someone to care about her during the Christmas season and a place to go to celebrate. Nope. After breast cancer had claimed her mother and throat cancer took her father, she’d vowed to help others. Charise shut the lid on her laptop and glanced over at the monitor for the tiger enclosure. She’d administered the meds they needed. The three Bengal tigers napped happily in their faux jungle enclosure. The white tiger grabbed her attention. She loved the look of the massive animal. Then again, she’d always had a love of cats. Big, small...didn’t matter. Such intelligent creatures and so full of attitude. The tiger hadn’t moved much since that afternoon. “He should be up and at ‘em by now,” she murmured. He’d been withdrawn since the transfer from the Paducah Zoo, but the meds should’ve worked. She left her seat and strode over to the quarantine enclosure. The tiger flopped on his side and stared up at her. His chest moved, proving he was still alive.
She squatted at the outside edge of the enclosure. “I just want you to get better,” she said to him. She closed her eyes and placed her hand on the chain link. “God, help him. If I can’t bring him around by my hand, then I offer him over to you.”
Charise opened her eyes. He didn’t seem to be responding—not even to her prayer. She sighed and stood. Sleep beckoned. She’d been up all day worrying about him. If she didn’t get some rest, she’d be no good tomorrow. “Good night, handsome boy. Merry Christmas.”
She made her way back to the main lab room and plopped in front of the monitors. The office chair wasn’t an ideal place to crash, but any port in a storm. Charise removed the clip from her hair and kicked out of her shoes. Just a little nap. Long enough to recharge, then she’d check on the tiger again. She leaned back and draped her arms along the thinly padded armrests. Charise closed her eyes. Just a tiny nap.
A roar jarred her from sleep. Charise sat up and blinked. Where the hell was she? She rubbed her eyes, then glanced around the room. Oh, yeah...the lab. She turned her attention to the monitor. A man sat in the sanitary white enclosure.
“No freaking way,” she blurted.
She scrubbed a hand across her face once more. Her eyes had to be playing tricks on her from lack of sleep. She checked the wall clock. Two a.m. Well, shit. Her nap had lasted more than four hours. She looked back at the screens to the isolation areas.
The man still sat against the wall, his long legs stretched out before him. She looked closer at the black-and-white image. No...couldn’t be...well…he was naked.
“Oh, my God.” Charise jumped up from her chair and bolted from the observation room into the main isolation room. “How did you get in there?” she demanded. “Get out of there. You could be killed.”
At once she regretted what she’d said. Get out of there? What if the man was a maniac? She slipped her cell phone from her pocket and dialed 911.

Bachelor Auction: Mate Not Wanted
Due out Dec 20th from Etopia Press

Will be available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and ARe

Sneak Peek:
“I’m fine, back off,” she spat, more venomously than she intended.
“Not until I make sure you’re not hurt.” Before she could protest he jerked her against him until her breasts pressed against his midsection. Her nipples became tightened nubs that pulsed with need. Her skin tightened as pricks of heat danced along her exposed skin and her lioness purred louder, demanding more contact with her mate. For a moment, all she saw was him. Her world became the bright white of his shirt marred by the dark stains of blood, his sweat and unique scent, the tanned skin of his neck. She leaned forward to rub herself against him, imprint her own perfume on his clothes. A soft buzzing sound filled her ears.
Whispers and murmurs swirled around them, pulling her back to the reality of where she was. Madison cursed her weakness and took a step back. She was supposed to stay away from him, not give him more ammunition to prove his theory that she was attracted to him.
“No way in hell. I’m fine. No damage. I could have handled myself, you know?” It wasn’t a bluff, but she had to remind herself of why she should be so pissed at him. Things could have gone pear shaped in a matter of seconds had she not stepped in. “Why do you have to act like such a beast? Jesus.” She ran a hand through her hair and focused her weakened anger at him. “You could have gotten someone hurt, or worse.”
He blinked. “I know you can take care of yourself. I was just trying to help.”
His voice was now soft and gentle, and yet that roughness still remained. It was like a single malt—smooth, creamy, rough, and could keep you warm on the coldest of nights.
Another shiver raced along Madison’s skin and smoothed down her spine. Her nipples pulsed with heat as her breasts grew heavy and tight. She wanted to move back into his touch, feel the press of his chest against hers as he moved within her, rubbing his skin against the sensitive tips.
Madison cleared her throat and tried to stave off her desire. “And I’m not your mate,” she lied, trying to shrug off the effects that his tenor had on her body, “friend or otherwise.”
“For now.” Pierce closed the gap between them until his chest pressed against her breasts, giving them just a hint of the pressure they needed. It wasn’t enough, not nearly enough.

Hockey player Brice Douglas has never gotten over the Christmas he spent with Ava Johnson back in college. Now, years later, he’s in trouble with his team, the Witch Fields Prowlers. Ava just got out a relationship with a cheating fiancé. She needs time to rebuild her life and babysitting her old college crush maybe the answer to her prayers–so long as sex isn’t involved. Unedited Unofficial Sneak Peek:

It was a gesture to shut her up, a kiss that stole her air and scattered her thoughts and cracked a few walls she hadn’t realized were weak. Though closemouthed, it branded her with a restrained heat she hadn’t expected. She wanted to open her mouth for a taste, give in and urge him to unleash all that heat. Ava could smell that clean scent of soap and male with just a hint of musk that sent the fire in her body spiralingHis heat seeped past the barrier of her jacket and the denim into her skin. She wanted to touch him, anywhere, everywhere, to pull the hardness of him against her. Ava wanted to peel off his clothes, gaze upon all that tanned skin, and explore every inch that she hadn’t seen in pictures.

She reached out to touch him, but he stopped the kiss so quickly she could only whimper in response. When he lifted his head, she found herself panting and confused, any thought of why she was here gone. She brought her fingers to her lips and pressed them to the tingling flesh.
“That Christmas was the best Christmas I’d ever had because I was with you. May have been two weeks, but I never forgot that time. Two weeks wasn’t long enough for us, for me,” he said before he stepped back. His face, ears, and throat red, desire and something else swirled in his eyes. “I have to go shower. You can just wander around, okay? Nothing to hide from you. I’m an open book.” He gave her another devilish smile and took off for the bathroom like demon dogs were on his heels. All she could do was stand there and touch her bruised lips. Damn it. She cursed herself, but she wouldn’t have taken that kiss back for anything in the world. She’d always wished she had gotten up the courage to kiss him that Christmas.

He paused before he entered the sectioned-off room and looked over his shoulder at her. “By the way, I like to cook, and I’ll be making dinner tonight. No going out for us, so get your things and get your ass back here quick as you can. Don’t make me spank you your first night here. And I will do it. Don’t think I won’t.” His gaze caressed her body once more.

Even through the layers of clothes, she felt it, touching her in places he couldn’t see, had never seen. Fuck, I’m so in trouble. As soon as he shut the door, her knees buckled, and her legs gave out. She didn’t let the pain of denim-covered skin and bone hitting the wood flooring register.

Sneak Peek:

“Nessa, babe? Answer me, sugar, or I’ll have to break down the door.” The stern warning only ignited her arousal. She could picture him just beyond the door, adjusting his glasses, his thick shoulders filling out his simple, red plaid shirt to the limit, wearing worn jeans that fit him like a second skin, and simple boots.
“Nessa.” Her name may have been a warning, but to her it was a sexy command, demanding she be ready to do anything he wanted sexually. All thoughts of illness and food fled as the need to come together with her mate, to feel him skin to skin, took over.
“Ben,” she sighed.
“Jesus, Ness! Are you all right or not?” There was a scratching at the lock, and the door opened. “Oh, I see.”
She gazed at him hungrily. He was yummy to look at, classically handsome with a square jaw, strong cheekbones, and beautiful green eyes framed by long, dark lashes.
There was just so much he didn’t understand.
Although he was a twenty-five-year-old second-in-command for the Pack, who managed every aspect of their lives and cleaned up their messes, she didn’t need him to save her. No matter how many times she’d told him that, it didn’t sink in. She was thirty-one years old and had been taking care of herself since she was sixteen.
“What?” He hadn’t moved, and she was wondering what he was thinking. Sometimes she wondered if he thought she was another mess he needed to clean up, an obligation he needed to take care of for the pack. She’d never voiced those thoughts, but they still came up. They had sex, and he did stop by to check on her, but she got the distinct feeling that sometimes he just didn’t know why he was there.
“It’s Christmas. I just wanted to stop by and see how you were and share a meal with you. Spend some time with you.”

Happy Holidays!
