“Home,” Michael Blessing murmured as he drove past the city limit line into Eerie. He hadn’t been back in so long. Seemed like the day he left was the last day he thought about his hometown. Silly, really. Eerie wasn’t a bad place. It was quaint. Like a storybook town. The buildings were whimsical, full of gingerbread and swirls, plus glitter and bright paint. The streets were clean and the sidewalks wide. The flowers blossomed brighter, and the people seemed to welcome everyone back.

There wasn’t a stranger in Eerie -- except humans. They were all strangers, but he wasn’t a human. His Fae father had married a woman who knew witchcraft. They’d been a good pairing, and Michael had the best childhood. Everyone thought his mother was human, but he hadn’t cared. He was loved.

His parents were still alive and still cared about him. He was their son, and they’d always love him, but they had no idea the depths of loneliness he felt. They didn’t understand the grief he dealt with on a daily basis.

The woman he loved was dead. The moment he’d seen Chloe, he knew he wanted her for the rest of his life. She’d be the best partner and eventually would make him a father.

Then she had, but she died.

He hadn’t been able to manage the grief, not even a year and a half later. He needed somewhere to hide. Eerie wasn’t the place to hide. Most everyone in town stood out. Witches, Elves, Faeries, gargoyles, shifters and every other kind of paranormal creature was there.

But he had a cabin in the woods on the other side of town, with a pier on the lake and plenty of space to be quiet, to hide and regroup. No one would bother him. He could write and be alone with no one bugging him, making him come out of himself or pleading with him to be social.

He didn’t have any social in him.

Not today. Not this week. Maybe not ever.

His magic had dried up, too.

Did he care? A little, but not as much as he should. He drove through town, then onto the side road leading to the woods. The beauty of Eerie was that everyone had a space. The lake, the village, the little cottages, the woods… If a paranormal creature wanted a space, there was one. If he wanted to hide at his cabin and write, then practice his magic, then he could.

No one would annoy him.

He pulled into the dirt path that led to his cabin. The second he wound through the trees to his little house, he felt better. Like he belonged.

But that was always the way he felt when he came here. His heart was in the woods, among the trees and peace. Maybe he was always meant to be alone. Chloe had seen the most in him -- more than anyone -- but she was gone, and he had to pick up the pieces.

He pulled into the dirt patch next to the cabin and parked. As the engine cooled, he debated what to do. He needed to put up the carport to protect the Jeep -- not from the falling branches, but the leaves, rain and debris. He supposed he could use his magic to protect the vehicle, too. Probably should do that. It’d be a reason to practice his magic and prevent too much damage to his Jeep.

Despite needing to put the carport together, he left his vehicle and headed into the cabin. The place would need a lot of cleaning up, but he could use those tasks to procrastinate instead of writing.

He carried his bag into the cabin, then set about to put the tarp, PVC and canvas carport up. If nothing else, the carport would hide his vehicle, and maybe if anyone saw the lights on, they’d leave him alone.

He hated being so despondent and crabby, but he’d been hurt and had no idea how to get over his loss.

An hour later, he managed to secure the Jeep in the carport and even cleaned up the living room enough for living. He added a bit of magic to the carport, adding extra strength to the canvas to protect his vehicle. He’d murmured the words and checked to ensure the spell had gone correctly. Sure enough, it had, and he grinned.

At least one thing had gone his way.

He headed back into the house, and his stomach grumbled. He should eat, but there wasn’t anything in the fridge. Hell, the fridge hadn’t even been turned on. He needed to make a run to the store, but also should set up the Internet, too.

He cleaned the dust from the living room, then set about getting the kitchen in order. He removed the sheets around the house to reveal the furniture and, as he worked, he swore he heard music.

A familiar song. Sweet, too.

He paused, and his thoughts turned to a song he remembered from his childhood. A girl he’d known had sung the song, but probably never where she thought anyone could hear her.

He chuckled to himself. He hadn’t thought about that girl or the song in ages. What was her name? She’d been a sweet young woman, with flame-red hair and fiery eyes. She rarely spoke, but she’d filled out quickly and wore revealing clothes. She grabbed attention wherever she went, but no one really got to know her.

He knew her name. He’d lusted after her the entire time they were in school.

Lia.

Gathering of Like Minds by Nancy Gideon

Nothing jumpstarts creativity like an escape from home and family to meet with a group of likeminded writing pals. Especially when those word-wielding friends have been at your side for over thirty years, have seen you through ups and downs, through contract deadlines and those long anxious pauses between projects. Have brainstormed and pitch practiced, supported and pushed one another through rejections and dry spells. Tipped glasses and passed tissues, carpooled and burned midnight oil. Lauded those well-turned phrases and respected each other enough to tell you that you could do better . . . for the third time. My critique group is like that (seen here mugging in 2014 from left to right: Dana Corbit Nussio, Laurie “Carroll” Kuna, Patricia Lazarus, me, Loralee Lillibridge and Victoria “Craven” Schaub).

Even living on different sides of the state – sometimes in different states or even out of the country! – we’ve found a middle ground where we could meet for overnights, weekends, sometimes just online or with a phone call to bolster each other’s confidence and “Woo Hoo!” good news. Or to commiserate disappointment and sad times with hugs and a good glass of wine. Writer friends are like that. My friends are like that. I’m so lucky to be apart of this creative, wickedly funny, scrupulously honest group of creative gal pals (Photo taken this past weekend. Missing-Dana).

I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am with published books aplenty and new projects buzzing about in my head without these wonderful, wacky women! Here’s to my “Pick of the Litter” pals!

Hot Weather Safety Tips for Companion Animals - Tena Stetler

Good Morning All!
With all the swelting temperatures across the United States and around the world, I wanted to bring attention to your furred companions. Don’t leave your dog or cat in a hot car for even a few minutes.  Temperatures can climb to well over 100 degrees in that time. Unlike humans, dogs and cats can’t sweat to relieve their bodies of heat. Instead, they pant. When trapped inside a car, the recycled air inside the vehicle makes little to no difference as they attempt to cool themselves off causing them to face heat exhaustion at a much faster rate than humans.

Pets that are exposed to high temperatures can suffer fever, organ failure, brain damage, or even death. This goes for furred, feathered or scaled companions.

Signs that your pet is experiencing overheating can be rapid breathing, weakness, the appearance of a bright red tongue or vomiting. If you suspect your pet is overheating, move them out of the sun and heat. Use cool, not cold water to assist in bringing the animal’s temperature down. Then contact your veterinarian immediately!

Additionally, don’t take your animals out for a walk if the air temperature is 77 degrees or higher. The asphalt can be up to 129 degrees. If you must take your animal out to relieve themselves, stick to grassy areas, dirt trails or shaded sidewalks.  If you can’t hold your hand on the asphalt for at least 7 seconds, it too hot for the pads on your dog’s feet.

Keep these tips in mind for a safe and happy summer for you and your pets.

Speaking of pets, lets take a peek at my new release, Raven’sHollow Spring Magic, which features an adorable rescue dog named Cocoa.

Spring is in full bloom in Raven’s Hollow, a small town in the Colorado Rockies with a population of unique townspeople. Blaze, a dragon shifter, and Wynter, a witch, are neck-deep in wedding preparations when Wynter’s mother, Jade, goes missing after opening her new antique store and attending the Simon estate sale where she procured an ancient jelly bean machine. Frantic with worry, Blaze and Wynter track her last movements via the store’s ancient, grainy security footage. What it reveals is nothing short of shocking. As deputy sheriff, it’s Blaze’s responsibility to find his soon-to-be mother-in-law. But at what cost?

A sneak peek between the pages of RAVEN’S HOLLOW SPRING MAGIC:

LoraLee waved from the front porch of her rescue. “Mandy said you’d be stopping in. What can I do for you?”

“Not sure. My house is too quiet. No one to greet me at the door last night. Uh—”

“Where’s Blaze? That man is always working.” LoraLee shook her head.

“It’s not that, he’s away on business, but—”

“I understand. Come on in, look around, see if one of my residents calls to you.” The woman motioned around back. “It’s so nice everyone is out in their runs today.” LoraLee let Wynter wander down the path between dog runs. “Rabbits, birds, reptiles are housed on the left at the end of the runs. Cat’s are in the enclosure with covered exercise areas on the right beyond the lilac bushes.”

“Thanks.” Wynter inhaled the sweet scent of Lilac as she ambled between the runs. Several dogs rushed to the gate, barking, and wagging their tails. Wynter talked to each one, hoping for a connection, then moved on. Almost at the end, she saw a chocolate colored, furry dog, with the saddest brown eyes she’d ever seen. The canine stretched out in a patch of sunlight a few feet from the animal’s gate. Peering at the sign on the gate, she knelt down. “What’s your story Cocoa? Why so sad? It’s a beautiful day.”

The dog raised its head, swiveled its ears forward and back, then stared into her eyes, and wagged its tail once almost hopefully, then got up stretched and wandered over to the gate.

Wynter turned to LoraLee as the woman came up to stand by her. “May I pet Cocoa?”

“Oh sure. I wondered if you two might connect. Cocoa lost her owner to a heart attack a few weeks ago. Hasn’t had much of an appetite or interest in life since. She’s five years old, and spent all of those years the center of the old woman’s life. So sad.” LoraLee brightened. “This is the most interest she’s shown in anything since she’s been here.”

Reaching her hand through the fence, Wynter rubbed under the dog’s muzzle, side of the head, and ear. Cocoa closed her eyes then licked Wynter’s hand with a dark purple tongue. The dog’s tail curled over her back for a beat, then drooped down again.. “Can I take her for a walk around the compound?”

“Of course. I’ll get her leash and harness.” LoraLee rushed to the administration building and returned quickly.

“How about going for a walk, girl?”  She stood, opened the gate hesitatingly, and knelt in front of the dog blocking the exit.

Smiling, LoraLee opened the gate wider, sidestepped Wynter, and slid the harness over Cocoa’s head and snapped the leash on the harness. “Off you two go.”

The dog’s tail curled over her back again and the Cocoa trotted beside Wynter. Cocoa turned her head occasionally to gaze at her possible rescuer. At least Wynter got that vibe.

Leading the canine over to a big shade tree, Wynter stopped, eased down on the grass and rubbed the dog under the chin. “Well, what do you think, girl? Would you like to come home with me?” She rubbed Cocoa’s ears. “I have a dragon shifter for a fiancé, but you’ll get along fine, I’m sure. He’s a good guy. A little opinionated and pushy, but…” She shrugged feeling the dog’s sadness, now overshadowed with hope, Wynter made her decision.

Looking for a great weekend, beach, or camping read? Look no further, Raven’s Hollow SpringMagic is the key to a relaxing time.

From Ghosts to Guardian Angels and Everything in Between.

It must be a little magic in how fast the 20th of the month comes around. I always wonder what I’m going to blog about. Then once I start typing, ta-da! Here’s my post.

I love a little magic in books, movies, and tv. Sometimes I wish I were like Samantha in Bewitched or Jeannie in I Dream of Jeannie. A twitch of the nose or a nod of the head and out the widow go troubles or not. Sometimes the use of magic can really upset the egg basket. Think of the mayhem that happened every time Aunt Clara tried to help. Or the time Jeannie made every day Sunday. Or like when Ron uses a broke wand, or Hermione gets cat hair in the potion.

A great ghost story makes me happy, and that’s why I enjoyed penning Sea Hunter. But what else? I write sweet contemporary stories based in the fictional town of Lake Unami in northern New Jersey, USA. Both Rainbow Sprinkles and Sophia’s Magic Beans bring otherworldly help to those struggling in this little lake community. Gloriana and Nathan find a second chance at love with the help of two special angels overlooking their lives. Then, in my next most recent story, Calliope and Luke get different aid. I’m playing around with a third Lake Unami book. It’s making me twitch a bit but not like Samantha’s nose. It’s a bit of A Christmas Carol retelling, and the guardian angels are hard at work.

I also write stories for mid-grade readers that combine folklore, shifters, and dragons in the Agent Sam Carter Mysteries.

(Huh, aside note. I just realized writing this that I’m having issues with my third in series. In all my series.)

Okay, back on track. Magic is part of our history, culture, and literature. From fairytales to Santa Clause, people love a bit of paranormal. It takes us to fantastical places and leaves us thinking of possibilities.

So, from Ghosts to Guardian Angels and Everything in Between, I intend to keep paranormal and fantasy in my stories. And you can find all my books here⤵️

Sasquatch, Yeti, Chuchunya, Bigfoot, and Other Fuzzy Love Interests by Marilyn Barr

The first reference to a ‘hairy, wildman’ in literature is in the Epic of Gilgamesh from ancient Mesopotamia (Sumeria) over 4000 years ago. This story of King Gilgamesh and his companion Enkidu has survived for thousands of years and traveled around the globe on cuneiform tablets, parchment scrolls, paperbacks, and finally eBooks. Enkidu is described as a fully-sentient humanoid with the capacity to blend into Sumerian society, after some tutelage from King Gilgamesh. However, he chooses to live in the cedar forests with the giant monsters, due to his unusually hairy physique. Just like the ‘great flood’ in this work of ancient literature the ’hairy forest man’ myth has been reproduced in literature around the globe…but what is this creature?

Sasquatch? Bigfoot? Chuchunya? Yeti?

It depends on the region of the world and the unique adaptations of the creature. Bigfoot primarily lives in the Appalachian Mountains of the USA, is known for his foul odor, is tall and lean, and is generally light brown. This is very different from the yeti of the Himalayan Mountains which is white, has more mass and thicker fur, and eats a carnivorous diet. Sasquatch and Chuchunya do not live in mountain regions…they live on the snowy tundra of the Arctic Circle.

Perhaps you have heard of my series Snuggling in Siberia where I share my husband’s culture and traditions through the inner working of a Chuchunya clan. These hairy cryptids fight the brutal weather of the Arctic Circle as well as the melting permafrost as the global climate changes. After Book 1:Cuddling My Chuchunya was released an unexpected foe threatened the clan. War. With Russia and Ukraine fighting a devastating war just miles from the Siberian Tundra, I couldn’t in good conscience continue the series…unless they migrated…

Do I dare to rewrite a released book, a book on preorder, and outlined 8-book series? You bet.

The Sasquatch of northern Canada and Alaska have amazing similarities to my beloved Chuchunya. They are both tundra beasts who live under the permafrost. Snuggling in Siberia changed to Snuggling Under Snowdrifts. Climate change is a global problem that manifests in every biome, so the message of saving our melting permafrost can live on…but in North America.

Reindeer migration routes are blocked by railway lines in Siberia causing a decline in species. In Northern Canada, the permafrost isn’t firm enough to hold the tracks! However, the Canadian government has recently implemented programs to save their endangered caribou and their migration routes. This means Vera’s plight to save Balky in Cuddling My Chuchunya could make the transition. Same with the hazelnut harvests, mating chase along the boreal shield (the grasslands between the boreal forest and Arctic Tundra), the Northern Lights, and the two-season calendar year dependent on hours of daylight.

Balky, gone but not forgotten

How could the myth of the chuchunya and Sasquatch blend? Migration over the Bering Strait. Paleontologists and Anthropologists (like Dr. Vera, our heroine in Book 1) are conflicted over a large migration, with people, marched over the ice when Russia was connected to Alaska at the end of the last Ice Age. If it is hypothesized that homo sapiens migrated with saber tooth tigers, why not chuchunya? The mythical beasts would naturally evolve to be slimmer with black fur and a voracious appetite for fish when they adapted to Alaska and the Northwest Territories. I took this into account when rewriting my clan and made Adrik, the loner from an extinct clan, a true Sasquatch.

Does this migration move the series release schedule? Not a bit. Book 2: Spooning My Chuchunya will release on 8/8/2023 when climatologist, Dr. Sydney Decker, crosses the Canadian Tundra to ‘rescue’ her best friend from the mysterious survivalist group that has taken over her life.

Will Sydney rescue Vera from her happily ever after or find one of her own? Here’s more about Spooning My Chuchunya (now on pre-order sale for 99 cents - preorder here)

I found the most elusive spot to hide from my parent’s cult but in claiming my cave, I accidentally allowed a snow monster to claim me…

Dr. Sydney Decker

Six months ago, Dr. Vera Thompson disappeared into the wilderness to settle with a mysterious “survivalist colony” without a known location. She may have bought their lies, but I was born into an isolated group of religious fanatics and can’t believe Vera would fall into the same trap. Her weak “find my phone app” signal is the lifeline between us, and I won’t stop searching the frigid tundra for her. My best friend helped me escape but now, it’s my turn to save her.

Sergei

Loneliness threatens my sanity with each rejection at the annual mating chase. Females fear my hot temper and need for control, instead of appreciating that I am the biggest and fiercest male chuchunya. I had lost hope I would discover my
dushevnayasvyaz or soulmate, but then she found us. This season I find myself breaking the ancient rules and deliberately damaging the rituals I hold dear…at her request. I meant what I said when I promised to rearrange the world to make my dushevnayasvyaz happy, but when will I be pushed too far?

Caught between the regimented conditioning of the clan and the willful spirit of his
dushevnayasvyaz, Sergei must choose the order which keeps him stable or his chance at fated love. Will they escape punishment for their deeds or face shunning in a desolate place where community means survival? Will Sydney recognize he’s betraying his kin to win her heart or ignore their bond in fear of losing her independence?

Spooning My Chuchunya releases on 8/8/2023, but you can start the series now in Canada with Cuddling My Chuchunya Edition 2 on Amazon Kindle Unlimited - start your adventure here.

Beyond Boundaries: Discover the Enchanting Universe of Qhasheik's Pod by Keri Kruspe

This month I wanted to spotlight my latest release, the novella Qhasheik’s Pod.

This book is special to me since it’s my first attempt at writing a novella. I’d never published a short story around 30,000 words before and was worried I’d screw it up. To make it more challenging, Qhasheik’s Pod is a love story different from anything I’ve written before. It explores a throuple relationship between one female and two males—all aliens.

Nary a human in sight.

Good thing my characters made it easy.

The trio was first introduced in Alien Legacy: The Vampire. There we find they raised the heroine of the story, Jelena, and ended up a predominant part of it. They’re also have a huge part at the end of the series in Alien Legacy: The Mage.

By the time that series ended, there were still some unanswered questions involving our three lovers. How did they meet? Did they fall in love right away? How did they all end up in the hidden city on the moon?

That’s just some questions about these guys that I deliberately left handing when the series ended. Not to mention how I couldn’t get the three of them out of my mind. I swear they forced me to sit down and write their story.

Nagging little buggers.

Ah, well. Let me introduce the main characters of Qhasheik’s Pod to you. Best way to start is with Qhasheik himself.

Qhasheik

Qhasheik, a male Ibbin from Peinuewei, is the captain of the merchant spaceship, Phytro. He and his crew of three other males are suddenly caught in a massive power wave that threatens to destroy them. Desperate for a way out, they spot a rogue planet and hastily head towards it in hope of making a safe landing.

Sadly, their journey ends in disaster. When Qhasheik regains consciousness, he discovers instead of safely landing, his ship is destroyed on a planet called Akurn. And him the only survivor. Taken into custody by the strange-looking aliens, he’s sold into slavery.

I found Qhasheik to be an unforgettable protagonist. He's a smartass who doesn't fear the opinions of others, confident in himself and his decisions. But, while he might appear to be invincible, there is a chink in his armor. With his home planet gone, he struggles to come to terms with the overwhelming grief of losing his people. And as the sole Ibbin on Akurn, he finds his solitude crippling, at times more than he can bear.

That is until he meets Abiditan.

Abiditan

Abiditan appears to have it all. The second-born son of a high-ranking family on the rogue planet Akurn. He has wealth, is handsome beyond belief, and considered being one of the key minds in the nobility.

He’s also labeled unclean, an outcast. The Akurns are a bigoted society where anyone who doesn’t fit into their idea of perfection runs the risk of being executed. Even with something as small as having been born with two separate eye colors. One eye is a normal blue green hue of an Akurn but the other is steel-metal gray. Even this minute deviation is considered an abomination, especially among the upper class. He may have the unwavering love of a doting family, but the longer he stays on Akurn, the more he not only puts his life in danger, but those of his loyal family as well. In a desperate attempt to avoid execution, he fakes his death and joins other rebels from Akurn to start up a hidden city underneath the Earth’s moon.

There he meets and falls in love with Qhasheik. They form a tight bond and are positive life couldn’t get any better. That is until they meet Katsuki.

Katsuki

Katsuki comes from the planet Runihura, a matriarchy society that is first introduced in Chloe’s Turn. She comes from a successful family that owns and operates a mining colony on one of their moons called Narkata. We meet Katsuki coming back from a vacation on a pleasure planet with her college bound daughter when their spaceship suffers unexpected engine problems. She and her daughter would have died in space if it weren’t for a rogue planet answering their stress call.

To their horror, they find themselves on the infamous planet Akurn known to be a highly patriarchal society that refuses to provide women, especially aliens like Katsuki and her daughter, any rights. Both are arrested and sold into slavery for being unclaimed females. To make matters worse, the Akurns separated them. Just before Katsuki is sold into the pleasure houses infamous for their brutality, she’s given the opportunity to join some Akurn rebels to create a hidden society on Earth’s moon. Now, with some semblance of freedom, she believes she’ll have the resources to find her daughter.

After settling on the moon city, Katsuki stumbles on Qhasheik and Abiditan. From the moment she meets them, she knows they are her aruu, her eternal mates.

Qhasheik claims his two companions are now part of his “pod”, a bond the Ibbin’s calls their immediate family.

From There...

The series that this novella stems from finishes with the liberation of all Akurns from the harsh monarchy of Sub Prince Murduk. At the request of the ruling galactic government called the Federation Consortium, our three heroes are instructed to take the vile villain to Katsuki’s matriarchy home planet for sentencing.

And that’s when the fun begins….

Celebrating 12 Years of Aliens, Clones, Shifters, and more!

On July 1st, it had been 12 years since my first story was published. CELESTIAL SEDUCTION is an MF Alien Romance that I wrote thanks to the prodding from some authors I met through a weekly blog hop called Six Sentence Sunday. It was for a submission call for the 1Night Stand line at Decadent Publishing. I still remember the shock and subsequent emotions I felt when I received the offer of acceptance. My first round of edits made me want to cry. It was extremely colorful, but the colors did nothing to cheer me up. But, I plodded through them and was elated when my story released July 1, 2011. I've written, revised, edited, submitted, had published, and published on my own many stories since then.

Though my first stories were about aliens, I've branched out a bit, writing about Clones, Far Away Worlds, a Post-Apocalyptic Earth, many Futuristic Militaries, Galactic Royalty, and Zombies! Branching into the Paranormal World, I've told stories of Shifters, Witches, Phoenix, and Gargoyles! My stories have included many pairings, including MF, MM, FF, MMF, MFM, and relationships involving non-binary characters with more to come. In some worlds, I've written about some males (omegas) who are able to get pregnant.

Most of the time, when I write a series, I stick with the same type of story throughout the series. If it's MF Aliens, that's all you'll get. If it's MM MPreg Shifters, you'll have plenty of them. But, with my new series (I've just completed the second draft of the first book), the only commonality is the area of space it takes place in, and the idea of space racers (a spinoff of my Kaddim Brothers series). The first book is a MMMF Polyamorous SciFi Romance. Another is an NB/F Online Dating SciFi Romance. There's an MF One Bed SciFi Romance. A M/DemiF Action/Suspense SciFi Romance. And the last I have planned is an FM MPreg SciFi Romance. Those are just the main characters. On our own planet, things aren't as binary as some would like to believe. And I want to show the diversity in my own universes. I hope you're excited to take the journey through the quadrants with me in Romance Tales from the Quadrants!

About CELESTIAL SEDUCTION:

At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline’s popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.

Carrie Cooper’s husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.

Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn’t human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love.

Enjoy an excerpt!

“I’m not exactly like you and most of the people on Earth. I’m….different.”

“Like a demon or a guardian angel?”

He laughed. It sounded forced, but he needed to stay focused on healing Carrie rather than mating with her. “No, you’re thinking paranormal. Try science fiction.”

She began to squirm under him, but he didn’t need to restrain her. “A….clone? Artificial intelligence?”

He finished healing her and lay down beside her. His thumb ran across her lips, wanting to taste them again, but knowing he probably wouldn’t. “Try alien.”

My Made-Up Holiday

 By Maureen Bonatch

Scruff said that no matter what holiday- he wants presents!

Today is a holiday in my neck of the woods, (and I’m not talking about Sidewalk Egg Frying Day), but as with most holidays, it’s not one that everyone celebrates, depending upon where you live and how much you love this holiday. We all have our favorites and make a bigger deal out of some than others.

Happy…Merry…Holiday!

Now I’ve been posting on the 4th of the month at Paranormal Romantics for, well, many years. So this year, rather than discuss the 4th of July/Independence Day, I thought I’d venture into another topic about holidays — how they keep multiplying.

Depending on where you look, you can probably find a holiday for about every day of the year. I guess if you really want to celebrate something, you’ll find something.

A few places to find odd holidays include:

If there are so many different holidays, I don’t see why we can’t suggest some new ones. (Although if we look around, they might already exist) So here’s mine.

Sweatpants Day

To be honest, I daydreamed about having a holiday called sweatpants day much more often when I didn’t work remotely. Since I started working remotely almost five years ago, I’ve made it my personal holiday almost every day (or yoga pants day) since video conference calls are only the waist up. But, I didn’t use to get to work in comfort.

Prior to that, I worked in several offices that had specific dress codes, which included the dreaded nylons. Not the cute ones that you see nowadays, but the ones with the lovely reinforced toes, enough compression to cut off circulation, and the tendency to get a runner about five minutes after putting them on. In a nutshell—although they often came in an egg—they were really uncomfortable, especially when you paired them with some heels that looked gorgeous if you were sitting but inflicted pain or discomfort with each step.

This is why most of us would gladly contribute five to ten dollars every once in a while to have a jeans day. I don’t even like jeans unless they are stretchy, but uncomfortable times call for compromise.

So I’d dream of the day that Sweatpants Day would become a holiday. Since it never happened, I had to work remotely to make it my own.
